pci usb error device mgr win me 1

new clean installation win me [oem]
everything is loaded and the usb ports are operational
but there is an error mark in device mgr regarding pci usb serial bus. I have not been able to fix it. I presume this is referring to usb 2.0[ since the board supports it]
the os is in a directory on the hard drive and was installed from there. I have downloaded all the patches and updates from ms.

Sounds like a driver issue or an IRQ conflict to me. Are the USB ports on board or did you put in a card? What does it say when you look at the properties, in that box that normally says "This device is working properly"?

this is a new board with usb 2.0 support
4 onboard usb ports
usb works, probably as 1.1
still a marked device in device mgr

MS will not support/provide USB 2.0 driver for Win9x/ME/NT4. So you can only use it as compatible version. I used ME and had the yellow mark too

Did you install the motherboard drivers and if necessary, update them?

Yes I did. And I always go to the Motherboard website regularly. Needless to say, they just told to go to MS Site for USB 2.0 drivers for W9X

My Mobo is ECS-L7S7A2. Maybe it will be a different story if I use a top branded one
