I have run several ram Diagnostic tools and they all state the chip is fine. Yet it is only registering as 256, when 512 is even printed ON THE BOARD?! Surely the chip must be faulty, but can it be fixed? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

definately look for the jumper, I had the same problem recently, and its worth a try before you go buying new parts. It's usually a 3 pin set, near the battery, (just by the PCI slots on my KT4). Look in your handbook if you've still got it. If that doesn't work tho, then go with the advice above.
