Hi,

Whilst using my comp. the other day, it decided to freeze up. The only way I could get out of this was to switch off at power switch. Ever since then I have not been able to get the thing to boot up again!

The cpu fan comes on and that's about it, there are no beeps and there is no display on the monitor.

I have tried changing all cables inside and out, i've changed the video card and monitor, but still no joy...it seems like it's not even getting as far as the post? please help!!

Maybe you need a new mo-bo battery?

I have changed the battery with no luck,

also, the mobo fans come on and sometimes the cdrom light comes on, so the power seems to be ok... i have run out of ideas!!

Have you tried disconnecting everything (except keyboard & graphics card/monitor - ie, all hard, CD, DVD, zip & floppy drives & cards disconnected) to see if it will boot to POST screen. Also, if more than one stick of memory, try each on its own (try both graphics cards too). If no joy, probably mobo, cpu or power supply (fans working ok?). If POST, connect back one at a time to find culprit.

Yes, i've tried disconnecting everything and i've tried the ram thing, cheers for everyones suggestions, i think i'll have to take her in for a check up!

I just had this similar incident happen to me. It turned out to be a small chip on the M/B. So I'll just replace it. That should correct it.

if your power supply has an I/O switch, put it in the off position. now find the jumper on the motherboard for the bios. pull the jumper off (usually clears the bios) and turn your computer back on. once it posts turn the computer off and replace the jumper to the original location.

Disconnect everything but the power supply, cpu, motherboard, and video. The purpose of this is to here memory beeps and that would tell you if the cpu was good. If that works then plug in the keyboard and watch for it to flash on post. Locking is a sign of your cpu, hard drive or memory failing. Do you remember anything before it died like was the mouse locking?
Keep us updated,

i agree with cindy & wolluf..u alway disconnect everything to the basics u can also remove the battery to reset the bios for 10 minutes ....as cindy said video, mouse, keyboard (u are looking for beep codes)...if that passes & boots reconnect the memory one piece at a time....if that post...hard drive, then cd rom...check each piece to see if it will boot....floppy drive and modem....remember one item at a time ..and boot ...my exeperience has been the modem.....

I tried disconnecting everything down to basics... unfortunately, no beeps. I also tried removing bios battery for 10 mins with no luck (& have tried changing battery).
I'm not sure where the jumper is on the mobo for the bios, this is new to me.

Thanks for all your suggestions, much appreciated.

The cpu or motherboard is bad. I vote for the cpu. The cpu is not detecting the memory.

definately look for the jumper, I had the same problem recently, and its worth a try before you go buying new parts. It's usually a 3 pin set, near the battery, (just by the PCI slots on my KT4). Look in your handbook if you've still got it. If that doesn't work tho, then go with the advice above.

Ahh, I think I might know what you mean, I have 4 dim switches near the bios, is this the jumper thing, if so, what do I do with them?
