What is FIPS?
When I ran the install it automatically (and successfully) shrunk my Windows XP NTFS partition. It asked my how big I wanted it to be and automatically created the Linux partitions (new feature in 9.2 http://www.mandrakelinux.com/fi/9.2/features/)

Cool Thanks!
It is a home/test/learn linux system. So I will go with just to two partitions. I am guessing I will need to tell lilo about them or maybe I should just boot on the Mandrake install CD and let it do its thing after I partition and format?

there is a partition in front of the Windows NTFS partition that trys to load linux.
Right now I am thinking of creating the partitions that I deleted telling lilo where they are and then trining a linux install.
I don't know how many or how big I should make the partitions though.
Any ideas...
K so the blind leading the blind:
1) defragment your hard drive and run chkdsk /f from a command prompt till there are no erorrs.
2) boot up on your Linux Mandrake CD and when it askes you where to install the OS pick "Free Space" if Windows XP takes up your entire hard drive like mine did it...
Setup a VPN.
VPN: Virtual Private Network. This gives you an encrypted tunnel through the Internet to your network/server. You logon to the laptop and then run the VPN client and your computer is connected to your network as if it is plugged in at your office.
If you set it up on your Windows...
You cant do alot without GUI access on a Windows OS. Maybe this is off the subject a little, but why don't you have GUI access?

Verify you are using the Windows 2000 DNS in your network settings.
Do you get any errors? How are you attempting to add the users?

I belive you can do this through group policy by using the .msi install file and an mst file you generate with the Office deployment tools that puts in stuff like the key (have not tried it just heard it can be done). Make sure your copy has enough licenses for all your users.

Set the new one up and keep it online. Install Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS. Just don't enable DHCP on the new one. Active directory and DNS can be redundent(this is a good thing). Read up on DFS: this configures a link to shares on both servers that duplicates the data automatically (on the...
You could set it up normally and deny it access to the internet. If you don't have an internet connection not to worry just set it up as usual. If you do have an internet connection and everyone is on the same subnet you could put the wrong gateway in the tcp/ip config. . .
Maybe there is an...
Change the ip address of the one that is giving you the error. Then at a cmd prompt you can type nbtstat /A ipaddress and it will give you the name of the machine and the logged in user for the ip address your put in.
Example:
nbtstat -A 192.168.1.56
Happy hunting. . .
Maybe this is a good...
I don't know what "pass" is take it. If you are wanting to put the password in the command it comes at the end after /user:computer\Administrator, so /user:computer\Administrator password.
Also verify that the c drive is really shared(right click, and go to sharing in windows explorer)...
Both of the DC's handle requests. The client picks the DC it thinks is closest. Yes you can change how often they replicate. I believe it is in Active Directory Sites and services.

What is it you want to give these people access to after they log on? If it is to map a drive you don't do it through a browser. What exactly do you want to give them access to?

Your net use is not correct: replace "pass" with the drive letter like "F:". So your line would read.
net use \\192.168.0.2\c$ f: /user:computer\Administrator

I started with Windows XP on the entire hard drive. I then started the Linux Mandrake install which resized the partition, created partitions for Linux, and starting installing files/programs. It locked up at the cups printer install. I restarted and now have the Lilo boot menu. I wanted to do...
I would like to setup a my system so on boot it can chose between Windows XP and Linux Mandrake. I would like the default to be Windows for now. I only have one hard drive available to me right now, which has Windows XP installed using the entire hard drive (NTFS). I would like to shrink the...
Does not really matter. If you keep both as Domain Controllers you will have one to backup the other. If you remove active directory from the win2k box you will be able to upgrade active directory to Windows 2003 native mode, which has some advantages that I cannot seem to remember at the...
