After reading lots of topics,I still could not figure, how would I map win2k3 drive on win2k ?

There is 2 Pcs.
192.168.0.1 - win2k
192.168.0.2 - win2k3

I can ping from win2k 192.168.0.2 without any problems.
However if I do:

net use \\192.168.0.2\c$ pass /user:computer\Administrator there is an error :

System error 53 has occurred.
The network path was not found.

Is there a possibility to map win2k3 drive c$ on win2k ?
Thx.

Your net use is not correct: replace "pass" with the drive letter like "F:". So your line would read.
net use \\192.168.0.2\c$ f: /user:computer\Administrator

Ops,sorry...I really did:

net use f: \\192.168.0.2\c$ pass /user:computer\Administrator

I don't know what "pass" is take it. If you are wanting to put the password in the command it comes at the end after /user:computer\Administrator, so /user:computer\Administrator password.

Also verify that the c drive is really shared(right click, and go to sharing in windows explorer).

Verify your win2003 server is configured as a file server, I believe file and printer sharing should be installed on the network connection, but better to use the wizard to configure your server as a file server. You know when you first install the OS the annoying window the kept poping up asking you to configure your server, use that.

I don't have GUI access to win2k3,but only cmd prompt.
I think win2k3 server had default instalation...
but now I not sure if by default it's possible to connect to c$ shares on win2k3 box.
ANy suggestions ?

You cant do alot without GUI access on a Windows OS. Maybe this is off the subject a little, but why don't you have GUI access?

C$ is a default administrative share, I don't think you can map to it anyway.

Sure you can, if you authenticate with an adminstrative account. That's why they're called administrative shares.

Your command should be the following:

net use * \\2003_computer\c$ /user:2003_computer\administrator

Umm, you can do a helluva lot without GUI access to windows--shutdown etc etc....own a box with command line tools--sure can...

In fact--should we be telling him how to do all of this? "I don't have GUI" makes me suspicious.....but then again I am paranoid...

lol

no you're not,

but everyone IS out to get you...

Hmm...just what i suspected...you are one of THEM too! help....

I know this topic is a couple of days old, but the reason why this isn't working for you is because of a bug in windows. You have 2 servers as follows:

Hostname - IP Address
2000Server - 192.168.2.1
2003Server - 192.168.2.2

I don't know why exactly, but if you use say, \\hostname\C$ /user:mydomain\administrator and it gives an error, replace \\hostname with \\IP Address. Likewise, if you try IP first and you get an error, replace with hostname. I don't know why this is, it just is !! Also, try connecting to the share via the RUN dialog box on another PC. If you don't have admin rights, it should prompt you for an admin account. Althought like the others, I don't understand how you don't have GUI access. Do you mean you just have access to shares on the server, not the actual server (physically) it's self?

Also, you can only have one connection to one share, so check what connections are "open" by typing net share. If you want to delete any, type net share (letter if there is one, if not, UNC) /delete. Or * to delete all.

anyway, time for me to go home. hopefully some of the above was useful
