Hey, have a look at this utility. it would appear to be a work around allowing you to temporarily turn off device security, perform the install, then turn security back on again.
Hope this helps...
Hey
thanx for the input but sorry that solution won't work. You'll notice that my original message mention this behaviour was occuring in a dialog box. Perhaps try the example I gave and see for yourself, whatever folder view properties that have been set in Explorer do not seem to apply to...
Hi
When viewing say the My Documents\My Pictures directory in a file open dialog box, the contents are always displayed as thumbnails. You can change View mode to use List, Details or whatever, but next time you open the same dialog box, the thumbnail view has returned. You can replicate this...
Hi, I to have had this problem for the last few weeks and I've been racking my brains trying to figure out what I did to cause it. Haven't figured that out yet, but I have found a reasonably quick way to fix it. Go into Control, Mail, Show Profiles. Delete your current profile, probably called...
Not quite sure what is meant by a tool to manage Outlook 98 PST files. The only utility I've heard of is the ScanPST.EXE that is used to validate the integrity of and fix problems in PST files. I believe this is installed as part of either Outlook stand alone or MS Office.
Try searching the disk...
A running Windows partition can be imaged by using this program: http://www.bootitng.com/imagew.html
While it is commercial $US27, they do offer a downloadable trial version.
Alternatively, floppy disk images can be downloaded from: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
I would recommend you use...
Not directly related to the cause of the problem, but Windows 2000 does support IRQ sharing and seems to handle it correctly. This is in contrast to earlier versions of DOS and Windows that had to have a seperate interrupt for each adaptor board.
Now to the problem. I would presume that for the...
1. What Service Pack level is the XP machine at?
2. Are the machines connected in a Workgroup or Domain environment? (Different environments can have differeent causes for the same problem)
3. If a similar Share is setup on the XP machine, is the same slowest evident when the share is accessed...
It appears that one half of the problem is indeed the distributed processing client from United Devices, as without this program enabled there has been no instance of the problem for the last four days.
I spent some time yesterday studying the support section of thier website, in the hope that...
I just wanted to give an update as to progress with this issue.
I've now reached about the 95% mark, in restoring my startup program. As I mentioned before the registry RUN keys are all back in and I have experienced any lockups in the last two days. I've been working through the Startup...
tpembe:
You may be onto something here. I have throughout the course of the day disabled all the startup programs, both RUN keys in the registry, the User and Common Startup groups. The result was that the problem disappeared.
I've started to selectively restored programs, one by one, but have...
Again, thanky ou all for continuing to come up with interesting suggestions to ways to deal with this issue. I very much appreciate the time taken.
tpembe: Your result certainly seems to be similar to mine, but I wouldn't want to gaurantee that it was caused by the same thing.
Sephresx...
Thank you so much for that interesting idea.
I haven't heard of it before and will certainly do some research this afternoon. I have set the service in SCM to manual and stopped the coppy currently running. Seemingl;y without adverse effects. I run througha few reboots in a minute and see what...
Hmmm, I guess I'll try to be a bit more clear, sorry.
'Reboot cycles' in context means that I purposely rebooted the machine, as the problem only occurs immediately after a clean boot.
Having checked the log files, there is nothing other than normal system messages.
Sorry, but I don't know where you got that idea from. I didn't mention a 'reboot loop' anywhere in my previous messages.
What exactly are you referring to?
Thanks for making that clear.
I was getting kind of worried, trying to understand why I was being referred to an Intel site for a non-Intel motherboard and chipset.
I have spend some time this afternoon, fiddling. Removed all except video card and made sure the drivers were removed. Also...
I've now checked the Intel website which says that the Chipset update Utility requires an Intel 8xx chipset. There is nothing stated for the Application Accellerator, so i have downloaded and run it. It just brings up a message saying incompatible hardware.
Further testing: Above I mentioned...
I have heard a lot of bad things about the Intel Application Accelerator and the number of problems that have been attributed to it. These problem have not been across the board, but have been reported frequently enough to make me very suspicious. Has it now got to a level of reliability that it...
> If appropriate, head to the Intel web site and download and apply their chipset update utility.
I wasn't aware that Intel did anything for non-Intel motherboards. Remember I'm using a Gigabyte m/board.
> I think 1stITMAN's notion of this being a cable, or controller issue is likely on the...
