Slow networking ?!

Hi,

I have a Windows 2000 Professional (SP4) computer networked to a Windows XP Professional computer. Upon browsing the networked files/folders on the Windows 2000 computer, I am experiencing a slow response; - in other words, I have marked certain folders on the Windows XP computer as shared. Although I can access them on the Windows 2000 computer, browsing them and executing files within them are slow.

Any ideas ???

Thanks,
Steve.

1. What Service Pack level is the XP machine at?

2. Are the machines connected in a Workgroup or Domain environment? (Different environments can have differeent causes for the same problem)

3. If a similar Share is setup on the XP machine, is the same slowest evident when the share is accessed from the W2k machine? (i'm looking for possible network hardware issues)

You might also like to have a look at these articles from the MS knowledgebase:

I seem to remember that there was also an issue to do assocaiated with the Task Scheduler, but that ones location escapes we right now. I'll keep looking.

Hi colinsw & bcastner,

Thanks for the replies. I'm yet to try out the possible fixes you've described (I'm away from the machines currently).

colinsw:

1. WinXP SP 1

2. Workgroup

3. Accessing shared resources on the Win2000 via the WinXP machine is fast & fine.
