I've figured out that I should be using a "delete query" and I see how the from and where grid cells works. I can delete records, for example, with an ID number of less than 10, for example by using a criterion <10 under the where field.
I can't get the Mod function to work in...
Thanks for your input.
I understand the logic of your recommendation, but am not sure about how to implement it.
I have a table (named Thin) with an autonumber field named ID. The other three fields are x, y, and z coordinate value numbers. There are over a million records in the table...
I have a large table of x,y,z coordinate values. The table contains over a million records.
Is there a convenient way to select and retain only a certain, lesser number of records using a query?
I'd like to select, say, every fourth record and retain that record, and discard the others...
I have a table that has 3 columns. I'd like to be able to combine the data included in the 3 columns into one of those columns, or create a fouth field with the combined data.
An example would be to combine address information stored in three fields into one field. Although this is not my...
I have many make-table queries that I run one after the other. These queries simply extract a subset of records from a larger source table.
I'd like to automate the process, so that I don't have to run each query one at a time, using a macro (I assume) to initiate and run all the queries that...
I'd like to extract records from a table using a query. I think that I need to use a query criterion built with the expression builder.
In particular, I have a table that contains 1577 records. What I want to do is use a Make-Table Query with a criterion that pulls out the first 256 records...
Thanks for your input. I do have Access 2000. I have not worked with Groups before. I'll try it. I want to be able to "group" tables and queries into "groups (like a Windows file/folder structure), instead of keeping all of the tables and queries under the main tabs...
I have many tables and queries (hundreds) in a single database (all using the same source data).
Is there a way to group the tables and queries within the database (like in a file - folder system)? I currently use naming conventions that allow me to keep track of the tables and queries (i.e...
I've found this forum to be very useful in just the past few days. My first simple question was answered very professionally. I have another simple question.
I am not familiar with Access programming. However, I have a fair amount of experience building Access queries, including some that use...
Wow! I'm impressed. Hopefully, I'd be able to return the favor someday. Will try code tomorrow. Will let you know how things go.
Thanks again. You're terrific.

Jeremy and GingerR thanks for your input.
The Excel approach won't work since Excel is limited to 65,536 (256x256) records. I have similar file size limitations in other apps as well, like AutoCAD. Some of my files are in the 170,000 + records range.
Rather than asking either of you to write...
I guess I wasn't clear enough in my initial message. I thought so, after I sent it.
I have a table with 171,389 records of x,y,z coordinate data in the first three olumns (fields). In the fourth and fifth fields I need to enter an integer number to represent the indices for subsequent mesh...
I have a simple question. It probably has a simple answer. In entering data into a Access table, how do I repeat a value (a number) in a field from record to record, without having to type the value in for each record? Is there a non-programming function in Access? Or, do I have to write a...
