Principal of school: The end user may not be very articulate with computers but a thought came to mind. A shortcut to the "home" profile's desktop/Docouments folder with appropriate permissions. They are not local administrators.
As a tech we may need to join several domains and...
Current Setup:
Principal of school has a XP Pro laptop and connects to the school Lan but must use a different login to use at home. If they change/add to their desktop it won't change the desktop of their other profile.
As a tech we may need to join several domains and having one profile per...
I could not find my original thread I will start again.
We are starting to use XP Pro at some of our schools. The problem is that whenever you join a domain you get a new profile.
One user could have multiple profiles if joining more than one domain.
We would like the users to use the same...
Everytime XP joins a domain it creates another profile for the user logging in.
I would like to authenticate to one domain but I may need to join another domain and each time I get a new profile.
Is there a way to stop XP from creating a new profile for each domain so that I only have one...
We are using NT 4 on the server and the clients are Windows 98.
Our school board requires students to agree to an Acceptable Use Agreement when at login. I guess it could be done in dos but it would look better with a Windows prompt.
I am looking for software that will display a computer use agreement when a user logins to Windows/Network for the first time. If the user agrees then Windows will continue to load and not be prompted again. If the user does not agree the computer shutsdown.
We use Deep Freeze so the C...
I was told that with Samba running you could ping a Windows server/client at the console level and samba would resolve the ip to the name.
I need to print to DHCP'D printers and want to make sure it works before implementing.
I have a Mandrake 8.2 server running Samba. I am pointing to our WINS server and linux does see it but it's not resolving any names to ip's.
I have edited /etc/samba/samba.conf through Swat but I have not been successful in getting it to run.
I am using Mandrake 8.2 and Samba. Samba and Samba client are installed and running. I point to the wins server linux won't resolve computer names. I can ping the wins server and I can ping the Linux server's name and the name gets resolved.
I have another server also running 8.2 and...
I have a Mandrake 8.2 print server that points to a DHCP printer. My problem is that the linux box is not resolving netbios names even though a Wins server ip is entered through Samba/Swat.
Linux will not resolve it's own name or any other computer name. I can't add the printer's name to...
I use Webmin to do all my Samba configurations (actually all my server configurations.)
If you install Webmin you can access your system through any web browser with ssl as well.
With Webmin go into the Servers tab and select Samba. There you can add shares, printer etc. You can also go into...
Thanks for all the ideas.
Here is what I have come across:
I have a Lexmark network printer. I have it on DHCP (preferred method) and it registers with WINS. I can ping the printer by ip and name. I installed the Lexmark Drivers and Markvision found the printer and did a test print...
Is there a way of re-installing the print spooler without re-installing NT?
I have a Lexmark printer on DHCP with the name lab. The server can see the printer. When I try to print something I get an error that it doesn't see the printer. When I try to access the port the window freezes and I...
I am looking for a app similiar to Ghost that will allow me to multicast a disk image to multiple boxes.
The server is Mandrake 8.1.
The clients would probably use a dos disk to see the network and load the image.
Thanks,
Jason
We have an internet webserver that we use for File Maker Pro Data. Some of our sites can see the server and some cannot.
Site A: The server can access the site using IE 4.0sp2
The client can access the server using IE 5.5sp1
Site B: Similiar server setup and the server can see our...
We have locked down the server but one program the students use must have full rights by the user in order for it to work.
I have added the NoFileUrl but didn't block out UNC paths. However I found that if you add the DWORD="NoFileRun"=1 than it will prevent the UNC path from going...
We have policies to lock down users as tightly as possible however if they figure out the name of the server they can use the UNC and start browsing the network.
Is there a way of disabling IE from using the UNC? I understand that you can separate the browser from the system (Windows 9x)...
This solution worked for me when I couldn't export messages and import them back into Outlook 2000 from OE 5.5
In your "old" Outlook hightlight all the messages then drage them to a folder. In your "new" outlook drag the messages into the inbox.
Worked like a charm for me.
