Help please

I had Outlook installed and for about 12 months received and sent e-mail. I then had to reformat and re-install Outlook. How do I link all my existing mail messages to the new installation? I know where the files storing the messages are.

Alternatively

Can I import Outlook messages into Outlook Express?

Thanks

George Allard

George, you should be able to. I've exported some folders from my Outlook here at work and I'll import them into my OE at home this afternoon. (We don't have OE at work.) I'll let you know what I find out.

George, I just imported a file from Outlook to Outlook Express with no problem. Just start the wizard and suppy the info it looks for.

Thanks - you are quite right - I can import from Outlook into Express BUT I have no messages in Outlook. Once I re-installed Outlook I lost the 'attachment' to the messages on the disk. I can see the message files on the disk but I can't attach them to Outlook so I can't read them and I can't export them.

This is becoming a desperate problem. I have hundreds of messages that I need to refer to plus all the e-mail addresses that are stored.

Please help

Thanks

This solution worked for me when I couldn't export messages and import them back into Outlook 2000 from OE 5.5

In your "old" Outlook hightlight all the messages then drage them to a folder. In your "new" outlook drag the messages into the inbox.

Worked like a charm for me.

Thanks Jason

Not what I am after. This is difficult to explain:

I had a successful installation of Outlook 2000 with messages. The messages were stored in D:\MAIL on my hard drive.

I was forced to re-install Outlook. I can find no way of linking my original messages with my set up of Outlook

Thanks

George

Can't you just cut and paste the files from d:\mail to your c:\program files\ms office\wherever ?

If you gave an infinate number of rednecks, an infinate number of shotguns to shoot at an infinate number of street signs, they would eventually write Romeo and Juliet in braille.

if i understood will, all what you need t do, jus find the the file named Outlook.pst on your D: and then give your outlook the path to it.
before that you have to delete the one that created by outlook. by default its in C:\WINDOWS\LocalSettings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst
then open outlook again it will not find the one that empty and it will ask for the path to it, so you can directed to your old .pst file
good luck

Go Tools - Services
Select Personal Folders. Click properties
This will show you the Path to the mailbox which Outlook is using now.
Click OK.
Personal Folders is still selected, Click Remove.
Click Yes.
Personal Folders has disappeared. Now click Add
Select Personal Folders.
Browse to find the PST file which you want Outlook to use, the one with all your old e-mail in it and choose it.
OK you way out of that. Close Outlook and restart it.
All your old e-mail should re-appear.
I hope that (a) this makes sense and (b) it solves your problem.
If all your e-mail addresses are in a PAB file, you will have to repeat the process, but using "Personal Address Book" instead of "Personal Folders".
