do they always have to work or are there special cases wherein they won't. Because in my case, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. On what cases do I use them??? Can I combine them to be more effective??

have you checked on the WAN IP of your router after you renewed?? Is it the same as before you renewed???
If the WAN IP changed that is causing the problem.
