I have just started working in a new job which uses a program called RMS Service Desk [V5.0.0.2]
their website: http://www.rms.co.uk has more info.
RMS uses MS Exchange/Outlook as the main communication tool between users & helpdsk staff - i find it great..

yeah you're right money isn't everything but you can't pay bills with chocolate coins - the banks frown on that sort of behaivour [evil]

not sure if this is an ethical sutiation or not, but here goes..
i've been working with a small IT Support firm in Glasgow for a few months now, it's been really quiet, and there ain't always a lot to do.
the other day i was offered a job in a bigger company with lots of ongoing...
my hosts file is spotless, i cleaned the winsock service and the backup files have been deleted. hopefully this is the end of this fiasco.

bcastner, i've tried all you suggested and nothing was found: the qhosts fix said my machine was clean, and i ran thru the online virus checkers and they finished clean too.
i don't really understand what the qhosts trojan does with regards to DNS settings but it...

sorry to bring it back up but i've also found 5 backup hosts files called hosts.[YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS].backup, with various different dates & times all listing the same websites from above plus some more.
does windows usually automatically backup the hosts files if they're/its changed?

i ran spybot [just doing a general clear out] before i found the hosts files and it didn't pick anything up...
but i'll definetly delete the entries and keep an eye on it.

i was looking in my windows folder and i've found two separate hosts files
hosts.sam
and
hosts
hosts.sam only has the 127.0.0.1 localhost, but hosts has 193.125.201.46 worlds*x.com 193.125.201.46 www.worlds*x.com.
why have i got two separate hosts files? is it safe to delete this...

i did think that about virus scanners but it was spybot & the registry issues that i was not sure about.
the thing that got me wondering was the rogue toolbars - i cleared them from my account but they are still in the other users IE windows - im guessing they are user specific...

im running xp pro with four user accounts with administrative rights and i've got a wee question..
do programs like spybot/adaware/virus scans etc. scan the whole pc [ie each user's account] or do i have to run the programs individually on the four accounts.
i'm only asking because...
In work there is a clapped out NT4 server that controls user logons & stores public files, and [bearing in mind that i don't know that much about NT4] i've kinda been left on my own to 'maintain' it, cuz the boss is 'too busy',
