And to add to the summary, in order to map to your computer, another user would have to know:
1) your computer name
2) The fact that C$ exists (this is a hidden admin share)
3) A user name and password for your local pc.
A properly set up network will have groups set up by area, function, etc...
In vb .net, do a search for pdf. There are options you can set to export pdf. This is in the crystal reports namespace.. I find crystal is not the easiest thing to work with. However from what I can tell, you would still need a 3rd party control to actually create a pdf file.
The "Compact and Repair" option is there to make your Access tables run more efficiently by removing wasted space and to fix or rebuild indexes among other things. I would say most, if not all databases have such facilities, even if they are called by a different name and done automatically. SQL...
Uninstall Easy CD. You'll probably have to do it in safe mode. Then see if your pc will boot ok. I've had a similiar problem with the same software under Win2k. Removing it fixed the problem. Roxio software is the worst I have ever seen. Haven't used it since.
And I find your claim that shutdown/start times increase to be dubious also. Yes, I know it's also a security issue with clearing the pagefile. It's also a matter of efficiency to keep the page file as unfragmented as possible. In all the years I've been in IT (and it's ben a while), a large...
Are you trying to run Chkdsk with the /f switch? Try running Chkdsk with out it. If it reports no problems, then you don't have anything to worry about. However if you still need to run Chkdsk X: /f, try booting into safe mode. (where X: is whatever drive you want to check).
And they say DOS...
And sometimes Partition Magic, when resizing partitions can cause problems. Esp. if you resize an area where the OS has stored files. Have had this problem a couple of times. Just make sure you back up all your important data and files first!
Again, it seems that MS, in it's narrow mindedness, is falling behind with what the hardware manufacturers are doing. MS, for whatever reason, refuses to make installation easier and simpler, as it should be.
I know that Dell now will only bundle a floppy drive IF you specify it, otherwise no...
bcastner:
yes, I KNOW you can do it thru the group policy edit. However it isn't the friendlist interface I've ever seen. Using regedit and knowing where the key is located is just as easy (or difficult , depending on your view).
And it does NOT "significantly add to startup/shutdown times"...
Hear is a better way to clear the page file (virtual memory). WARNING: PERFORM THE FOLLOWING AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management.
Select ClearPageFileAtShutdown from the list on the right.
Right on it and select...
Oh, I'm having TONS of fun with crystal. Trying to figure out why/how to use a barcode font (SKANDATAC39). Using this font I need to append an asterisk on both ends.
Plus Crystal doesn't print much other than garbage, no matter what font I try. Have been told this may be a PCL problem. I'm...
Actually I meant if he needed to rebuild a hd if, for instance the OS becomes corrupted and needed to be re-installed. Saves lots of time if you can copy an image over an existing OS.
Once a form is completed are you saving the data to a file or database? If so, then in crystal reports, add the fields from the database and print.
You might want to find a copy of 'Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .Net', 2nd edition from Wrox. It will take you thru the steps of how to create...
I know it's possible to run exe from a server, but how does trhe client know anything about the dll a program needs.
I'm trying to think of any app I use that works this way and can't. In fact I have a web browser application that loads a custom viewer in the form of a dll and it MUST install...
Maybe I'm a bit confused here. But don't .dll's need to be on each client and registered by each client? If not, how does the client use the .dll????
This means that the net framework would need to be loaded on each pc, along with exe (and I agree, it would cut down tremendously on network...
First, you would need, at least read/write permissions on the remote server. Second, map a drive to the server and finally in your code create a folder/file to the drive that you mapped.
Take a look at basic file i/o in the on-line vb .net help. It's fairly good at showing how to create...
No, the printdocument control is used to print DOCUMENTS. The form is not a document. In order to print the form, you need to find some way to capture the screen, then print it.
Another good bVB net beginners book is 'Beginning VB.Net 2003' from WROX. It teaches the fundementals, including data access and web page programming.
And for you, GaryWilsonCPA, there is a whole chapter on meu programming. Also includes a fair amount of info on combo boxes.
What I find...
Does your friend her nosie from the power supply? OR from the hard drive spinning up? If no, I'd definetly say the ps is dead. Time to replace it.
If your friend lives near a computer store, they should have a power supply. HAve him remove the ps and take it with him/her to the store and have...
Another good use for your old drive installed into your new pc would be a good storage location for your ghosted images (IF you ever decide to use Norton's Ghost). That way if u ever need to rebuild the new drive, the process would go much faster.
