I've discovered why the VSS error happens, I just don't know how to fix it.
I’ve set up a hidden encrypted drive (Drive Z:\) on Drive C:\ using Truecrypt. In this encrypted hidden drive I’ve installed two very important programs with client database files that I want to protect.
When I boot up...
Besides...if I was having boot problems (I'm not) why wouldn't I just do the following and not have to pay for this MBRWizard program:
Enter Windows XP Recovery Console.
When you reach the command prompt (detailed in Step 6 in the link above), type the following and then press Enter...
one site suggested that I go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216} and delete it then restart MS shadow, VSS and a few other items in Services to rebuild this key. Didn't help.
I saw this post about MBRWizard, however, I was concerned about...
I run a cloud backup program IDrive, unfortunately after each scheduled backup, an entry in Event Viewer will show up if I have any of the files or programs that I have set to be backed up are opened at the time of backup:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: VSS
Event Category: None
Event ID...
PROBLEM SOLVED!
Thanks to all that posted...but I had a hunch that it might be Norton Ghost (see my previous post) so I uninstalled Ghost ver 9, went into the registry and removed all instances that I could find of Ghost, went into system32/drivers folder and removed the ghost drivers and...
Thanks for the suggestion.
I ran chkdsk /r and if found and replaced a bad cluster in file 155351 of name \system~1\_restore{7375869F-EA65-45DC-8D20-652DAAF74F49}\RP15\snaps hot\_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE.
I have no idea what that was or whether that was the cause or not of my bad_pool_header...
I have XP Pro SP3 and am getting a bsod at shutdown.
When I shut down the computer it goes through its normal shut down procedures, although much slower than before. Once the Windows shutting down screen goes blank, I will see a quick BSOD before the computer starts to reboot again (remember…I...
Zone Alarm popped up an alert that says..."Win32 Cabinet Selft-Extractor is trying to set wextract_cleanup0 to run each time my computer is started." It is my understanding that wextract.exe or the application mpas-f.exe is used to help in uncompressing windows cab files, but why should I let...
I run W2k pro. I would like to be able to boot from an external hard drive connected by USB on my desktop from time to time. My external drive was originally a boot drive in the pc and now where I save my backup image files. Bios is set up, but when I try to boot from the external drive I...
I've contacted the good people at Intel and their tech support thinks that my CPU is going bad. Since I only buy retail, just for this type of reason, they are going to replace it at no charge. Hopefully, when the new one comes in, my computer life can get back to normal.
I'll try to let you...
Thanks, but Probe is not being automatically loaded. Only on demand. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and suggestions, but since nothing seems to make a difference (or make sense)I guess I will let the cpu run hot till it either corrects itself (unlikely) or finally burns up (more likely).
obg
I guess I will bite the bullet and remove everything to get to the battery...however, the strange thing is that nothing actually changes in the bios. When ever the cpu reduces speeds, it shows in the bios but when I go to the parameters, they are all still set correctly...it is as if the cpu is...
Thanks JimInks for the info...I checked the bio settings for Vcore. Its manual settings would not go below 1.5v so it confirmed what you just said.
In an earlier post Paparazi suggested the motherboard battery could be the culprit...has anyone ever experienced my problem because of the battery...
Jurgen,
I don't doubt your advise, but why then does Probe (the Asus utility) say that the VCore voltage is OK even at 1.52 volts?
And since I have a 2.8ghz P4 on a deluxe board (not deluxe E) does that change the vcore requirements to a higher number?
obd
I had thought that early on and was one of the first things I checked...thinking that somehow a virus or spamware was involved, but cpu usage is between 0 and 1% at idle.
Heatsink is hot...
Probe says that the following about voltage:
+12v running at 11.916
+5v running at 4.945
+3.3 running at 30248
vcore running at 1.488
It is running steady at 3078mhz with a idle temp of 60degrees celsius.
If I set back to factory 2.8ghz, idle temp drops very little.
It...
Could this be a heat related issue?
Try downloading one of the many cpu temperature programs like Motherboard Monitor. Maybe it the cpu is overheating and causing it to shut down and reboot. Just a guess.

I might suggest using a BartPE boot cd http://nu2.nu2.nu/pebuilder/. Go to a good computer and download it free. Then make a bootable CD with BartPE on it. It actually has a built in Windows XP OS on it so you will actually be booting in to its XP. It will then allow you to search around, using...
