I don't know what version of Access you are using. But we found out that you have to have MS photoeditor installed (it isn't installed by default and some later versions of office/Access don't even have it) and the files you want to show up (say JPGs) need to be associated with photoeditor...
You are right, PM doesn't support any characters out of the ASCII character set. We had this EXACT problem trying to print Shoshone words. The fix that I had to do to make this work in our PM (version6.52) Was to buy Macromedia's Fontographer and create a new font using our normal text font...
