Secondly besides the media question, your suggestions on a good backup program would be appreciated. I'm not too happy with the ones I've looked at: Backup Plus, MSFT's free backup program included with the OS or with Iomega's program.
My ruminations were meant as a response to this...
After 5 months of a diet of posts similar to thread751-437464, i'm thinking that a second hard drive might not be too expensive.
I'm thinking that a second hard drive and ghost would be a good solution to the backup situation that you're talking about.
The next question is whether to do it as...
bcastner-thanks-this is an area i know nothing about-but my point was-based on other posts i've seen-with no additional detail about "turn for the worst" wisdomwarrior is not enabling you and other knowledgable folks to give advice/provide resources focused directly to the problem...
I was looking for something about a program mentioned in another thread and this screen turned up. I suspect most of this is "pay for"-don't know anything about any of it-just pass it on in case it's useful.

Oh and one other comment-I don't know what a "turn for the worse" is, but if it means that the harddrive is not spinning up at all, a lot of this stuff probably does not work.
I was looking for something about a particular software product this morning as a result of another tek-tips post and came onto this. It's a page in the middle of the article but it looks like you can go back and forth. Have no idea what all is in there...
There was a thread somewhere not too long ago that suggested you could overdo defrag -- doing it too frequently increasing harddrive wear for no or minimal benefit.
Is the print spooler enabled?
On a 690 properties-details-spool settings and then there are boxes for spool print jobs or print directly to printer.
check spool print jobs, ok, and then apply settings and exit-see if that helps. The 610 menu should be similar to the 690 that I described above.
remove and reinstall printer in case drivers got confused during nt upgrade?
Since it was working before, this is probably remote chance, but is there enough room for spool file and is harddrive being defragged?
I think a first step to try on printer issues is to remove and reinstall the printer. You could also try that with the mouse.
something on the order of
uninstall printer and its software and remove mouse in device manager, shut system down, reboot, let it reinstall mouse, and then reinstall...
