A user has "Accidentally" formatted their HD it hasn't been touched since any suggestions of good utils pref free.

Soz forgot to say i have already searched the forums and PC Inspector didn't really dig up much.

Reload Windows and all software and chalk it up to experience. Software for that job would be specialised and cost a few dollars. Not only that but even with the software, you need to be experienced at the job....Dave

There is an unformat command in MS-DOS v5.0 through v6.22, though I am not sure what exactly you had used to format the system, but if you have done nothing else and have access to this command in either DOS or under Win 9x, I'd say give it a shot or do as davidelnormal said...

Good luck!

I should also point out that if this was formatted using Win 9x or something newer, there is this warning to go with my suggestion:

"This program was designed to only be ran in MS-DOS versions 5.0 to 6.22. If you have upgraded to Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, or any other Operating system this command will not restore any information but may possibly cause additional issues with the Hard Drive."

You have been cautioned! :)

Good luck!

One last post. If you used Win 9x or something newer, you might try looking at the program:

Teamaker - if you searched the forums - did you notice any other recommendations (I can remember seeing several, not too expensive - $30-40 - apps that other members have had success with).
This is one of them
PS. surprised PC Inspector no good - lots of reported success on fat32 that hasn't been disturbed.

They wont pay for it and i'm certainly not they should stop bloody fidling.
PC Inspector has worked for me in the past aswell but not this time.

I have tried several different recovery programs but none anywhere near as successful as the one that Wolluf has suggested with his link. File scavenger has a free download that will show you what would be recoverable. The free version, however, only recovers 32Kb of data. The full version is $39.
Is it worth it? How important is the data?
I offer this as a solution to my customers, with no guarantees. If they don't want to pay for it, and they caused the problem, then it can't be that important and I wouldn't spend any more time fretting over it.
