Excellent! That's got it going now. Many thanks.
Short time of consternation when it refused to believe it knew anything about the modem that that went away!
I've just taken over a laptop (Win98SE) and can't use the internet though its modem...
The laptop used to participate in a domain but I've now set it to Workgroup operation.
In IE setting I've removed all reference to LAN connection.
In the DUN TCP/IP settings it's set to get settings...
Well I've put a new disk in now and all is well.
When I set autoscan=0 in msdos.sys it still did a scan. Perhaps the 'msdos.sys' that I needed to alter was called something else at the time, eg. msdos.dos.
I'm trying to sort out a WinME system which always asks to do a scandisk on startup.
It may be quite justified in thinking that it ought to do one in that the machine *did* crash at one time and it's not been able/allowed to complete a scan disk since then (it's trying to do a thorough scan)...
Thanks for your thoughts.
I've decided to do the batch label producing in Access where I've got much more control and just use Word for the single batch instances.
What I've got is a lot of mailing details. They come in batches and each batch is to start on a new page (of labels). The start of a batch is marked with a code field having a specific value (eg. code = "P").
It's unimportant whether they print directly or go into a new document eventually...
I'm trying to create a mail merge to get labels (which is not a problem). Under various conditions I want to throw to a new page but can't find out how to do it. It's got to be either easy or impossible!
What I'm after is some sort of condition like
{ IF { MERGFIELD code } = "P" { newpage...
MakeItSo's solution hasn't worked :-( I can't find a "auto entry for cell values" entry un iptions (Office 2000) and ones I've tried didn't help. Setting up a template didn't stop it converting to date format either.
This has got to be simple but I can't see the answer!
I've got a csv file which I'm, opening in Excel. It's just a lot of text fields, i.e. "xxx","yyy","zzz",....
Some of the fields contain data such as "1/2" but when Excel opens this file, it knows...
This must be such a trivial question for those who know but I don't so...
I'm looking to get a memory stick to use with two computers. One has USB2.0 and the other only USB1.1.
If I get a USB2.0 stick will I have any problem reading it with the slower machine (other than slower transfer times)?
For anyone who was interested in this problem, I think I may now have found the answer.
The machine was running Win95 and I just did an upgrade to Win98SE. During the process it refused to restart properly, insisting on rebooting when it should have been starting windoze (though safe mode was...
Thanks all for some useful pointers.
There's no onboard video but I'm currently getting the latest XP drivers to see if they help.
I keep forgetting to look in the event viewer to see if there is anything useful reported! I'll pursue that line of attack.
I am experiencing a problem, the cause of which is proving to be very tricky to locate. Perhaps someone out there will have experience of a similar thing or maybe some other ideas to put forward.
I have 'upgraded' three machines, two in an identical manner with the third being similar. In...
