How can I create login scripts to remap network drives?

you may need to disconnect current drive mapping before running the above command. i.e. net use z: /d That should decrease any problems caused by users already having that drive letter mapped.

Changing OPS$ user name - help please

Thanks for the quick reply. Does it matter that previous database activities were done with the administrator account? I presume not, but as you can tell I am new to this side of life. Will this new user have the rights to create new base databases or will I need to change or assign specific...

Changing OPS$ user name - help please

I have inherited the support of a system that was set up with administrator as the only OPS$ account. I need to rename this to PVCS I think. Currently when trying to create a new base database the password is failing, mainly because the administrator account is obviously authenticating against...

How do you share files and printers?

I know this isn't exactly a helpful comment, but I thought I'd add it anyway. I have had similar problems in the past and the fix seems to be nothing more than carrying out the removal and reinstallation of networking components several times along with a few reboots. Presumably I have done...

Linksys router and XP using Messenger

Like you TheOldMan346, I am sure I have read somewhere in the Linksys literature that using port forwarding does NOT work with DHCP activated on the router. Try disabling DHCP, just assign each machine a static IP, and then use port forwarding.

    Cannot Login (Domain selection missing)

sys69, You should be able to do that without a problem. I am running exactly that currently. I have my 'work domain' as my login, which obviously fails to find a domain controller, but logs me in instead with the cached profile. I can then connect to my wireless home network via IP quite...

Hi we are using 45 winnt machi

What is the batch file doing? Can you not give the users access to the server through their domain accounts and nullify the need to enter the password on the server? i.e. is this a permissions issue. What password are they having to supply? Share password or application password?

    Very Excited HD Light...No User

The indexing tends to be updated hence the need to repeat it. Try checking in control panel for findfast and then open it and view the log. If these times tie in with when you are seeing the activity this could be the cause. Also check your antivirus setting, these may be set to scan system...

    Very Excited HD Light...No User

Are you using antivirus, findfast or indexing? Sounds like you are using one of these set to operate when the system is idle.

Mapping shared folders to drives on a standalone PC....

u could try using SUBST from a command line (think it still works under 2000 server, but I'm more than happy to be corrected) Alternatively you could try right clicking on the folder ya wanna share, setup a share and then map to that in the usual manner. If ya need more details let us know.

    KEEPING A SYSTEM ADMIN. BOOK

I don't suppose anyone has a database they use for this do they? I am currently in a similar situation to lisabennett in that the systems I am now supporting were previously not documented. Not only am I currently having to find my way around the systems and work out what has/hasn't been done...

Automate adding to Local Admin Group.

I would go for a login script that checks that the workstations has had the global group added, i.e. by the presence of a txt file in the root of c:, if not run a simple script file to add the global group to it. I'll try and post more details when I get some more time unless someone else gets...

    Outlook 97 locking up

When using outlook the system appears to hang, looking at task manager outlook.exe and services.exe are maxing out cpu to 100%. Operating system is NT 4.0, SP5. Logging in with an account on a different domain outlook behaves ok. Previously the NT profile was refreshed and appeared to fix the...
