Okay, I got it fixed. Thanks for the help. I had to take ownership and give myself full control of the main shares and just propagate the permissions/rights to the rest of the objects.
Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory
A folder is within a share. The folder itself is not a share. Everytime it is accessed it gives access denied.
Even when you are on the server itself logged in as administrator account of the domain. I have not tried logging on locally yet since I am...
I set up a Windows 2000 Server to Accept Incoming Connections.
I have the end users dial in.
It's not even a domain logon. Just a workgroup set up.
XP and 2000 pro clients dial in just fine.
Win 98 pcs give me problems. After the dialing noises finish the Windows Network logon prompt pops...
I was able to find my problem. Basically I have a Lexmark Multifunction printer at the remote XP computer. I found a Microsoft Knowledgebase Article stating that Lexmark multifunction printers have issues redirecting.
Thanks for the replies.
Trying to print to local pc.
Basically, I am vpning in order to remote desktop into a windows xp pc which is within an office network.
So when I print in the remote desktop session, I would like to be able to have the print jobs print out to the local pc's printer.
Here is the set up:
XP machine at office.
Windows XP at home.
VPN into office network.
So I log onto Remote Desktop after vpning into Network Server.
and I check off the local resources "printing".
It does not work.
Does anyone know how to get the printer redirection to work or...
I want to upgrade a few NT pcs to XP.
Only problem is that NT partitions are too small and won't have enough space to run the XP upgrade.
This is what I was planning to do.
1. Run Partition Magic to make the NT partition bigger.
2. Run the XP upgrade.
Will this work?
What does everyone...
Be sure you have the printer/fax drivers somewhere before doing anything
Delete any printers that you have installed.
Delete and fax machines that you have installed.
Then try opening word up again.
Thanks to all that replied.
I am not sure if it is a bug but I did searches on Google and alot of configurations have to be done in order to just have an all TCP/IP peer to peer.
I will just leave it alone with Netbeui as a protocol.
Thanks for all the suggestions
It is wierd. When I set it up with just TCP/IP the 98 pcs can all see each other.
No I do not have DNS, WINS, NETBIOS over TCP/IP. All I set up is TCP/IP protocol.
Assigned static ip addresses and matching subnet masks.
File and Printer sharing enabled.
The 98 pcs can see each other but the...
Debonairone:
Why will I enable Netbios? If I only want TCP/IP?
Well I have already set up the peer to peer using Netbeui so I do have users created so permissions and shares are not the issue.
Yes all the subnet masks are the same and they are all in the same IP address range.
Windows 2000...
Accessdabbler:
I did install File and Printer sharing. It still does not work.
VictorKozlov:
I only want a TCP/IP only peer-to-peer network. I do not want NetBios/Netbeui.
How can I have a peer-to-peer network with Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 98 pcs?
Using only TCP/IP?
I have a peer to peer network.
Windows 2000 Professional which I am using as a file server.
The rest of the PCs are Windows 98SE machines.
I have shares on the Windows 2000 Professional pc which all the 98 pcs map to.
I tried to set it up with just TCP/IP but it does not work. Why?
I had to...
This is my question. Is there such thing as a wireless switch or hub?
I am really trying to avoid buying a switch and an access point and just sticking the access point into the switch.
Unless adding a wireless router to an existing network would work.
How would that work?
I am not dealing...
I do not have a mailbox set up for this email.
I gave the folder an email address.
The situation that I recently encountered was someone deleted a public folder.
The public folder had a mailbox associated with it.
The only issue I had was when I attempted to recover the email from the mailbox...
I have created a Public Folder and set it up to have mail directly sent to the folder.
How do I set it up where the email first goes to a mailbox and stays there and then another copy goes into the Public Folder.
I want this set up in case I ever have to restore these emails into the Public...
Go to the server where the actual folder is.
There will be tabs there when you right click.
One is called Sharing, in this Sharing Tab there is a Permissions button. Make sure the user or group is added there.
This Sharing Tab is not seen when you look at the share from another pc.
Then the...
