Dear Lovalles,
Thank you for the post. I had used the sqlservr -m command to no avail on Saturday....when I put it in this mode this way, then the Arcserve SQL agent will not even connect to SQL to restore and it bombs. I really appreciate the reply though! I have resigned myself to...
I have had a few miserable days trying to restore fully my SQL databases with Arcserve 2000. My data database restored ok, but after making a new temp master.mdf so that I could restore the master.mdf from tape, I have not been successful in TWO DAYS restoring the master.
The error I get in...
Dear Andel-
Thank you for telling me it is possible, but I could not find a way using the two tools I used to restore:
1. rebuildm.exe (data directory is filled in and unchangeable)
2. Arcserver 2000 for tape restore-if you try to use other than restore to original location, the agent was...

Update if it helps someone....

Does anyone know how to change the data directory in rebuildm.exe? The default directory is not the data directory that we use, and I need to restore files from tape....
Thank you!
Update if anyone cares.....
I have found with a Google search that I need to use the rebuildm.exe utility from the SQL CD to create a dummy master.mdf which will start the service, and then I can restore my tape files in the normal way....

I am in a vicious cycle....After a Hard Drive crash, I restored Windows 2000 Server c$ and e$ (RAID) info and registry from an ARCSERVE 2000 backup tape. When I then went to restore the SQL data using the agent, it could not restore because the SQL service won't start. The root of the problem...
