sql server agent won't start 1

Hi,

when i try to start the sql server agent on my sql server i get a message saying that 'the service did not start due to a logon failure'

i have rebooted the server but the problem persists.

any ideas? i am new to sql server so i'm not sure where to start.

Dear Joey-

You should just need to go into the services applet, right-click the MSSQL service, and (depending on your OS) select either Startup or Properties. You then are looking for the login credentials. Try re-entering them and re-starting the service.....

I would recommend creating an account on your domain specifically for the SQL Server to use called SQLService or something to that effect, so that this doesn't happen again the next time you change your password. This will also limit your lialibility in case the SQL Server is compromised, so that the admins will know that the SQL Server did the nasty things, and not your account. You can also grant the SQL Server less rights than you need to be able to work, to lessen the window of what someone can do if they break into the SQL Server.

Hi -

I've had this same problem - after being forced to change
windows login on my PC.
The instance of SQL server is local on my PC for testing.
When I change the login details on the MSSQL service it's
fine - UNTIL reboot - when it plays up again - I have
to change the login details on MSSQL Service again ---
then hit OK and it's fine.....
UNTIL reboot again, anybody had this re-occurring issue?

Sounds like the data isn't being saved to the registry properly. Make sure you don't have some sort of registry corruption problem.
