OK, I've tried the scheduler thing and it's partially successfull.
I can't run the program as a screensaver cause each time it starts there's a prompt for username/password.
Just trying to launch a program when it's already running brings up the program and a small error message saying that it...
Web aware screensaver? I don't know what it is.
I found a command line utility that would probably work with windows scheduler - nircmd. It can manipulate open windows etc. I'll give it a try tomorrow and post if it worked.
Thank you. Basically from what I understood from my boss they'd like to switch to this application and make it full screen when the computer is idle. It runs in the background all the time from what I know. I'm not sure if executing the program would run a new instance of it - I'll check...
In our office we run a security cameras management application. Basically it just shows live video from several cameras.
What we are trying to do is to switch to this application when the computer is not being used for anything else. Kind of like run it instead of a screensaver.
I have no idea...
OK, what we do is run an FTP server on the file server.
Then just make a shortcut to ftp://guest@servername/ or something to that extent and name it "Student Files" or whatever. Guest doesn't have access so they get username and password prompt instead. When they log in they are...

I don't work for them. I work for Pratt Manhattan. We are happy with it, but you have to keep in mind - NO changes can be made to protected drives. So certain software that does require changes (c-dilla for instance in 3ds max) will need to be...
OK, that's a different situation.
What we do is make them FTP to the drive from the lab (just one shortcut really) and logon with username/password to the drive. And they get directly into their folder with appropriate rights. My boss set it up so I don't know the details right now, can post...
Just don't let them log on as themselves. Make all PCs logon automatically on the same "computerlab" account with a mandatory profile. If you dont use roaming profiles I don't see what the problem would be.
We also use a harddrive protection device in our lab called "centurian...
TweakUI offers a very easy way to hide partitions (under "My Computer"):

Allright, half a year later I found an answer:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\PersistBrowsers dword set to 1.
Just like in XP.
You could also uninstall it for good. We use ghost, so we make sure our image doesn't have outlook express to begin with.

I think I fixed it. Turns out these errors (11 and 9) happen when IDE controller doesn't support ATA66 and the hdds do support it. Had to set it to PIO.

OK, a more specific question. How do I deal with IDE controller errors? In the event log I get several errors indicating that IdePort0 didn't respond within timeout period and a message saying "the driver detected controller error" on that port. That's why I get the delay on boot.
I...
