Hey All,
currently experiencing an interesting (read: irritating) problem with Arcserve.
I recently added another server onto our SAN backup system, worked ok for a couple of days until the jobs started hanging. It would say "active" but nothing would be happening, and the only way to...
We never had much luck manually naming tapes in Arcserve as it always seems to label tapes with the current date & time.
The Serial number is really the only reliable unique identifier you can use with an Arcserve system, I've found.

Brian,
The only way (I know of) to copy tapes is using the tapecopy.exe located in the Arcserve directory.
This is how we set it up (we also have a PV136T with 2 drives):
Create some seperate device groups for the copies (COPY-1, COPY-2), and assign the relevant library slot to each group...
Hi All,
I am having a little trouble with a firmware upgrade I performed on my Powervault 136T with LTO drives.
I updated the RMU and Library fine, but when it came to updating the Drive firmware from E15V to E21V using the Dell Library & Tape Tools program it informed me "Firmware updated...
<bump>
fastmustang: Running SP4 & I *think* I found the patch you are referring to. Didn't fix the problem however.
Ok now it's getting desperate, one of my drives is actually requesting a clean, and I can't clean the damn thing!
I'm considering updating the library & drive firmware on my...
TheLad: Yes I have tried a different tape. I ran at least 15 jobs with my first tape then the problem started so I switched tape, and the second tape has not had a single successful clean.
Cyklops: Yup, cleaning slot configured & in use.
Thanks,
Edward
Hi all,
I am having a problem with my Dell PV136T and Arcserve. Not sure which is causing the problem.
Basically what happens is I attempt to run a Clean drive job through Arcserve, which thinks for a bit then declares:
"ERROR: SLOT IS EMPTY".
Meanwhile the cleaning tape has been...
First, discover the Queue ID of the Job in question from the Job Status screen in Arcserve.
Next, stop all Arcserve Engines.
Then go to the folder 00000001.QSD within the arcserve directory, and delete the file 0000000x.JOB, where "x" is the Queue ID of the job you want to stop...
Well, it's looking good now. I've run a backup job and it propagated to the central server. The true test however will be tonights backup.
Anyway the thing that seemed to fix it was a reboot of the machine. I noticed it had been running for 2 months straight so I gave it one, and it worked...
Jabus,
No luck. The changes I made to the connect.ini file on the main server made no difference, and I went through and checked all the rds.log & rds.bak files, and none of them go above 4 active sessions at a time.
That being said, is it normal behaviour for their to be a login & logout...
Thanks Jabus,
I increased the Session value in connect.ini to 60, we will see how that goes.
But I checked out the rds.log, and by the looks of it I never have more than 4 sessions running at a time, and most frequently there is only 1. How could this error be occuring then?
Regards,
Edward
Hi All,
First time poster, nice forum you've got here.
With the pleasantries out of the way, I am having some trouble with Arcserve2000 for WinNT/2000, namely the inability of my servers to get the database info to the central Arcserve VLDB on another server.
The error code is:
E4101 - Unable...
