ADG is kind of like RAID 4 (all parity on one disk) PLUS another disk dedicated to Parity. Performance hit on writes but you can lose two disks (like RAID 5 + spare). You don't need any more connections or anything. You will only get about 200GB total. I would setup the whole thing as one...

I would be willing to bet that you are running RAID 5 since the math works for that config...
3 X 18GB - 18GB (for RAID 5) - equals ~36GB. Lose a few GB for the RAID overhead and you are right where you say you are.
You can also install the Array Config utility on your server so you can...
Its my understanding that you must start out with fresh HDs and set them up with the RAID settings previous to installing the OS. Some controllers support migrating from one RAID level to another but IMHO I think you have start with RAID first....

Until I saw this post I thought you could do RAID10 with Compaq controllers although now it looks like you have to go with a 3rd party to do that. (its easier to stay with a Compaq controller in a Compaq server than to do the above from a support standpoint... FYI)

Nowadays we usually (except in the case of a high I/O -performance need)set the disks up as one volume (RAID5) and carve the partitions up with W2K. You can leave some unpartitioned unused then add it later too.
Be careful that you set the boot partition as large as you REALLY need it though...
