Yes, the NAS severs can be nice. I've got a Dell PowerVault 715N and it's a piece of cake to set up. Mine has the 1.4GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, and 480GB of IDE Software RAID 5 disk space, and a Dell PV120T DDS-4 autoloader.
One warning though - it uses a stripped version of Windows 2000 Advanced...
You don't say who's SMTP server you want to install. In any case, I'll offer a couple of suggestions.
Sendmail is the bomb. However, it does have a rather sharp learning curve - there's a good O'Reilly book called "Sendmail" that walks you through the entire configuration. It's about...
I assume there's some sort of positive air pressure in the room? If the room is sealed you're right, that exhaled C02 isn't too good for you.
And plastics do outgas over their lifetime. That could be another problem.
Let's not forget PC boards, polyphenol something or other. I'd bet that...
We just had a drive go orange on our Proliant 1600R with the embedded RAID controller.
Took the drive out, snapped another one in and just for laughs put that drive we took out into a test server. It's RAID controller had no problem with it.
What causes this?
First, lock down everything. Don't give them delete priveleges for the DNS files, etc. Yes, this is a pain but it's the best way to protect yourself.
Make sure all your servers have all the current security patches. This will seal many of the holes in Win NT 4.0 and not allow your mischievous...
Go to the services control panel and open the properties of all the Backup Exec items. Then where it says "Log on as" key in an account that has system privs with it's password.
BE is all about services. If they can't log on, you won't get anywhere.
For those who'd prefer to just POP3 and SMTP their mail from an exchange server there are a few pieces of information you need.
The domain name or IP address of the email server. With VPN I'm not sure how this would work.
But login names on it are as follows...
Better yet - go to download.com and get two applications that were instrumental to my tracing of the perp who was using my web server as a DDOS zombie.
Get ActivePorts and then go our and get Belarc. I managed to find out that IRC port was running on the box and then used Belarc - it details...
I have to ask if there's a specific reason you're still using an NT 4.0 server as a print server. Both HP and Lexmark both have TCP/IP print clients that work very well.
Yegloev has it right. If the 12GB tape drive isn't able to read AME tapes it won't work.
We just went through something similar at my office. We have two RS/6000's with 20GB 8mm drivers in each. They're AME drives. Problem is we sync data with a federal agency and they don't have the ability...
Make the field a text field. Then set a validation rule for ######## so it'll only take numbers on the form.
I then do an event procedure after update to grab the value from the field, look at it's length and pad zeros where needed and stuff it back into the field. I kludged this one together...
