XP resets IE to "Never dial a connection"

If I set Internet Explorer Tools - Options - Connections tab to "Always dial my default connection" it does so until I reboot. Then it resets itself to "Never dial a connection". Outlook Express does not have this problem, and dials out as expected. Only Internet Explorer will not autodial...

Abit KT-7RAID board with Athlon T'bird 1400 & IDE ZIP100 drive. Installed VIA IDE Tool to solve compatibility issue with Southbridge chip that caused ZIP drive to malfunction. Now ZIP drive works perfectly, but getting intermittent freezing. Could last 1 or 2 seconds, could last up to a minute...

How to stop MSProxy Client 2 from dialing out on Windows startup

Windows Me, MS Proxy Client 2.0, remote network via TCPIP. I connect to a remote network via MS Connection Manager using an IP redirect service. I only need MSProxy client enabled to access the Internet via the network's Proxy Server, and it all works quite well. My problem is that whenever...

Slow Zip 100 Parallel & Canon BJC5100 Problems

Tried all settings for parallel port. No improvement. The Zip parallel driver installs as a SCSI device. That's why I thought there may be some setting there I could use. But it doesn't explain why, when I use the Iomega drivers, I lose communication with the printer!

Slow Zip 100 Parallel & Canon BJC5100 Problems

I've tried that & it doesn't help. Maybe there are some settings in the SCSI section of Control Panel/System that will improve the speed. I've seen some examples on the Iomega site, but those settings just made things worse.

Slow Zip 100 Parallel & Canon BJC5100 Problems

:-( Zip 100 parallel is painfully slow. (100MB can easily take an hour to x-fer) Tried on built-in port on ABIT KT7-RAID MB, & also on second port in ISA slot. Used WIn ME default driver, as if I use any Iomega drivers, I lose the printer & get printer not found errors. This whether I use...

How to stop virus scan when opening documents

Problem solved, but I'm a bit sheepish. In McAfee, disabling heuristic scanning removes the API scan function in MS Office. But that wasn't the cure. I have Norton SystemWorks installed, but not running. (It works well, but consumes huge resources & is comparatively slow IMO). Nevertheless...

How to stop virus scan when opening documents

In Office 2000, every time I open a document it is scanned for viruses. How do I stop this? I have McAfee VirusScan 5.16 which apparently has attached itself to Office programs like Word & Excel. B-(

    I can't change config.sys

If you must.... Unofficial Real DOS-Mode Patch v1.3 16-bit [9 KB] modifies COMMAND.COM, IO.SYS (EBD) + REGENV32.EXE to allow Windows ME to boot to native MS-DOS 8.00 and use Autoexec.bat + Config.sys files, the Windows 95/98 style. http://www.geocities.com/mfd4life_2000/

I downloaded the latest version (7.00.00.1958) from M'soft and installed & tested it just before posting the question to the forum. Windows update doesn't show any newer versions available.

    Longggggggg pause while loading WIN.COM

This problem has plagued me through win95, Win98, & Win98 SE. When booting, everything goes OK, but when win.com is run, there is a good 60 "pause" during which nothing happens. Then windows loads normally. Bootlog only shows the long pause before the first driver is loaded by...
