    well never mind, figured it out, command is 'stty kill ^u' i kept trying 'stty kill=^u'

    Did a 'man' on 'stty' still have not been able to successfully change the value of 'kill' from the @ symbol to something like '^u'. Could someone let me know how to change this value? Thanks for the help.

    Thanks for the information. I looked up the mt command and successfully used it to rewind my tape; however, could not use the 'erase' option. I did a man on mt on my machine and the erase option was not present. As an FYI I'm using HP-UX. Is there another way to erase the tape? Also, wanted...

    Thanks for the help, after inserting a new tape, I'll give my device name /dev/rmt/0m the next time I see the prompt. As far as the -M option, I did try that one as 'tar -cvM' (and other flavors) to no avail, it was not recognized on my system.
