I dun quite get you... I want all the file inside the tape to be extracted to the directory. I've tried cd to the directory that i wanted and executed the tar command. It ended up restoring to /. Thos direcroty in the tape are copy of fs I made before the the server crashes using tar...
I need to copy a tar backup to a fs. The scenario is that inside the tar backup has multiple directory but need to extract to a single directory. can it be done?

I've tried to test a F50 with different CPU Planars mixed together (166MHz & 332MHz) and it fails. But I've managed to install a 1-way 166MHz and a 2-way 166MHz and it was succesful. Why don't you give it a try a 1-way and a 2-way from same speed and see how it goes.

Do the pSeries now support the RHL 8.0? As far as i know, only the RHL 7.1 for pSeries (64 bit) is currently supported on the pSeries :-

To install bos.perf.tools, just insert the first AIX cd, go to smitty installp, choose the media then the software to install, search for bos.perf.tools, then press enter. Then you will be prompt to insert the second cd.

How many memory modules does the server comes with? Is the memory modules supported by the server? Have you tried removing all the modules from the server, and reinstalled it one at a time with trying to boot up the server on every insertion. Try to repeat this until all the memory...

You can then mget * everything within a dir without being prompted.
To transfer a whole folder and everything in it, your best bet is to 'tar' the folder...
