Unable to connect to the Internet through IE 6.0

Hey guys---just in case it matters--this is NOT a PAY job. This is a favor for a lifelong friend of mine, for his 3 nieces and one nephew. The machine did NOT work well when I turned it on last night. It took well over 5 minutes to boot up. I ran Spy-Bot, since they had it loaded on there...

    Explorer problem?

Why is it pointing to E and is that correct?? For some reason it's looking at E for a "tmp.*" file. Is it looking in the right place or do you have a problem with a drive identification issue. The lack of details about the machine, only gives me a question to ask you about it:)) I hope...

IExplorer, getting a box with an x instead of the picture

Bcastner--that advice is very sound--so many times people turn of their Auto-Updates for the sake of Memory saving. However, they usually forget about the Critical Updates that are sitting there that might coreect a lot of "starnge" happenings:)) LOL Jimmy69

Unable to connect to the Internet through IE 6.0

After removing 491 SpyWare entries found by SpyBot, I can no longer enter the Internet through ONLY IE 6.0. Norton System Works can access the Internet fine. I am running Win XP Home Edition on an eMachine. The ONLY SpyWare I cannot delete, even from inside the Registry is BTIEIN. It denies me...

    Disk Boot Failure-HD not present-CDrom-present

razled, Yes I could get a new BIOS chip--but with the technology outpacing the mobo's, why spend money on a dinosaur. I can use her RAM on a new mobo and create something that will let her do what she knows she needs and at a speed that will give her comfort. I appreciate your thoughts...

    Disk Boot Failure-HD not present-CDrom-present

Ok guys--here's the latest--after experiencing inconsistent behaviour with the computer while loading different programs, I decided to try to REALLY "FLASH" the BIOS, and possibly make it a bit more stable, IF, the inconsistencies were being caused by it. Bottom line is that, if the...

    Dell External Cd rom, Pcmcia

DellComputerUser, That might be the best place for an answer to this one. It seems WIN 98 looks at things a bit different than WIN 95, even though it can use the same drivers. I just through my 2-cents in from my book, to at least give another direction. However, I t doesn't look like a...

    Dell External Cd rom, Pcmcia

razled, I'm sifting through a 1766 page Resource Kit manual for WIN 98, looking for some clues. I've never dealt with an external SCSI drive. The manual is pointing towards the SCSI bus configuration and two files you can look at--IOS.log and IOS.ini. These files might give you a clue to the...

    Disk Boot Failure-HD not present-CDrom-present

Here's an update to the Flash BIOS program for this BIOSTAR M5SAA mobo. To run AWDFLASH for this mobo, you place the floppy in the A drive and start booting, at the bottom of the screen you'll see a message that says "Press ALT+F2 to Enter AWDFLASH". It's the second half of a repeat...

    Disk Boot Failure-HD not present-CDrom-present

twpb, This is very strange--but I'm not complaining. The BIOS was up to date--but I downloaded the same one again. When I attempted to flash the BIOS, after booting into DOS, using "awdflash.exe"--it came back and told me that the program could not be run under DOS. We both know that...

    Disk Boot Failure-HD not present-CDrom-present

I'd also appreciate any feedback on this trouble if you agree that it's the mobo, since this is the first time I've ever encountered this trouble in over 10 years of working on computers. Thanks in advance for anyone who cares to offer any advice.

    Disk Boot Failure-HD not present-CDrom-present

razled, I've tried replacing the ide cable and used the other connector also. The jumper is set properly. I used the hard drive to boot up my other system. I also tried clearing the CMOS after I tried reseating the battery. Nothing different.

    Disk Boot Failure-HD not present-CDrom-present

I'm looking at a two yr old AMD K6-2/500 with SIS 530 chipset, running Win ME. On boot up, the HD is not found, yet the CDROM is. They are both on the Primary IDE. Same results on the Secondary IDE. I've reseated the RAM, reseated the CMOS battery (which tested OK), tried KNOWN good HD's in it...
