Right, getting the error message "exporting a certificate with its private key requires that a password be specified."
Is it certainly the certificate which is causing the password prompting? I can understand why we're getting the certificate error, but not why it needs the password when it...
Hi,
We currently have an exchange 2007 (SP1) server in a single domain. We wish to install an Exchange 2010 server to replace this, but obviously can't without upgrading 2007 to SP2 or SP3. Now here is the first issue; there is a problem with the windows installer, as well as the network...
Apologies for dragging this one back up. Anyway, I've come across this problem before, and applying that Microsoft patch has indeed solved the problem. However, I've come to do it again, and the patch does not solve it this time.
Does anyone actually know WHY that patch needs to be applied...
How about making a new group on the domain called "workstation admins" and adding that group to each machine administrators group?
OR.....just add the "everyone" group to the local admin group on each PC?
I'd advise against it though.
Probably nothing to do with this, but I have the same problem when I reboot my PC with my USB Cable modem plugged in. If I plug it in after Windows boots, it's fine.
Never used to do it, just a recent occurance (no change of hardware or software).
Decided to setup the modem via LAN rather than...
OK, say we have a system which requires the printers to be mapped to LPT1, but also need to select from a list of say another 4 printers for Windows application printing?
At the moment we have a login script mapping a particular printer to LPT1, but we have to map the other network printer...
Surely that means the user is going to get 100 shortcuts then?
Not sure if it works the same, but try....
Start the Registry Editor by typing regedit.exe in the Windows command line.
Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Explorer.
From the Edit menu...
So it's not the mapping which requires the password.
Take all the lines apart from net use out, see if it does the same.
(Funny thing is, I've got a problem here at work which is causing me just as many problems, I guess I should be trying to work that one out first! ;-) lol)
OK, now I'm really confused. Just tried it again and it works perfectly (that's without changing the script).
Me tinks dee gremlins be in! :-s
Thanks anyway, this has to be the best thread I've ever seen, and the one thing I've been looking to sort for ages. Cheers Dillinger99!

Dillinger99,
Without saying "rename your printers", how can I apply this to network printers with names longer that 8 characters?
I'm guessing I can't right?
Cheers
Answering this off the top of my head, since I'm not using XP at the moment.....
Try creating a shortcut to
rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1
No idea if it works, as I've not had chance to try it.
