    Already tried that, several times. WinXP detects the drives correctly and says that they are operating correctly. As I mentioned, I can read what's on the cd, but only when I manually populate the drive. Thanks for the idea though.

    Well, I tried your suggestions. Now the drives don't work only half the time. Very strange. My next step will be to take them out, swap them on the IDE and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas.
