just saw a good workaround for your problem in the latest issue of photoshop user.
i tried it and it works :)
"to reduce shiny highlights on a person's face, use the patch tool set to source, select the shiny skin, and drag the selection to good skin information.

maybe a bit off topic, but here is a really cool tutorial i found and have used many times to make a "fake" newpaper clipping. might get some ideas from it for colors, etc.
