    Network Setup issue

All PC firewalls are off. The wireless router is doing DHCP. I think the 2003 Server also does DHCP for that sub-net. (Not sure if I'm using the correct terminology--this is not my realm of expertise.) Llamaman

XP Home -- Deleted User Account Need to recover data. The option to retain user data was chosen, but the desired Outlook.pst file does not appear to remain on the hard drive. Any thoughts on how to recover this data or where it might be? I did a search on the hard drive for *.pst with no...

    SuSE Linux slow on web

Thanks, Actually I'm not dialing w/ DSL from the linux box. The router handles that and I get DHCP from the router. So it's just like I have LAN ethernet internet access - so I don't think the resolv.conf file will help here. I have tried messing with all of the ethernet card settings (auto...

    SuSE Linux slow on web

OK - here is what I gleaned from the curl -Ov: It downloaded the file really fast. The PROBLEM is that it took it approximately 2 minutes to connect to the file. Once it was "connected" - smooth sailing. Does this sound like a DNS issue? Llamaman

    SuSE Linux slow on web

OK - Once at the machine, I attempt to ftp to ftp.suse.com. It hangs for a good long while before it connects. In fact, in the time it takes to even give me the username: prompt, I can wheel over to my Windoze box (connected to the same router), ftp into ftp.suse.com, log in, get a directory...

    SuSE Linux slow on web

Thanks - the issue is not in the DSL - that is hooked up fine through my router. I actually connect to the internet via DHCP connection from the router. I get fast pings. When I get to the box, I am going to test an ftp download to see if maybe it is just the browser as Skute suggested...

    SuSE Linux slow on web

Thanks - After reading the man pages, I concluded that the routes.conf file is no longer used (since SuSE 8.0) and that the routes file and ifcfg-eth0 (etc.) files are used instead. I didn't glean any information from THOSE man pages about adjusting settings for a slow internet connection...

    Linux Web Development Tools

Can anyone recommend any? I need to develop a site. I'm used to using Dreamweaver in the Windows environment. I did the graphics and text using the GUI and used ASP for the back end. I'm creating a new site with PHP, but don't know if there is a good Linux web development tool ... Thanks...

Programmers: Building a new site - your advice

Hi, I'm about to embark on building a new web site and rebuilding an old one. I'm used to building with ASP. I am moving to a Linux platform and want to get away from ASP. What are the options that are out there for developing interactive pages, and what are your opinions on...

    Urgent: NT login/domain/workgroup issue

Delkin, Yes, I have seen that set-up. My DSL modem does not have a CAT-5 cable - it has a USB cable to connect to my PC. I'm wondering if there are routers available where I can use my USB modem??? Thanks, Llamaman

    Urgent: NT login/domain/workgroup issue

Thanks, guys, for your help. I don't have a local admin password - maybe I can coax the Network Control Freaks at work to relinquish rights to a local admin password. How would you suggest I set up the laptop at home in order to log on to my home network? (I have a USB DSL modem, so NT cannot...
