    Proliant 6400R, SmartStart 5.50 & WEBM

Have you got the latest version of smartstart? i thought it was 6.mumble, i thought i had seen a 6.10 and that was some time ago! G

    MSA 1000 Help

What two switches? Its a good idea, but you need the extra i/o module in the MSA1000, ideally another HBA and SecurePath on every server.

SCSI Ultra160 PCI 64-bit controller cards

Terminators! Well the recomended way to setup a shared SCSI bus is to:- 1) Remove the terminators from EVERYTHING including HBA's and devices. 2) For each SCSI connector use a "Y" cable 3) Use standard SCSI cables to connect all the "Y" cables together. 4) Put ONE terminator...

SCSI Ultra160 PCI 64-bit controller cards

Chike, The simple answer is NO! But the real answer is much more complex. Firstly its about HBA's that are qualified to work on a shared SCSI bus (aka multi-initiator and/or multi-homed) and most are NOT! Secondly its all about ownership and synchronisation! If you have a disk on a shared...

    General SCSI Question

Are you using real Compaq drives? as Compaq doesnt do a 80GB drive! (36GB, 72GB, 146GB but not an 80GB!) And if they arent Compaq drives they wont have Compaq supported firmware on them and then its unlikely that they will work reliably with the Compaq controller! G

    scsi drive status offline

Have you tried re-seating the disk? ie just press the purple button and pull the lever down and then close it back up again? If you do it make sure you do it firmly and that the disk is fully seated! G

    compaq smart 2\p and SPARCstorage

If you get this to work it will be a miracle! Compaq smart arrays arent very forgiving when it comes to the disks attached to it, if its not Compaq disk then ...! Sun disks are also not very forgiving about the controller they are connected to! Sun implement a lot of propriatery features (some...

Recover admin password on Storageworks switch

The /EL range of Compaq/HP switches are standard Brocade switch with a 4 switches per fabric limitation built into the software (By Brocade). A licence is available to remove this restriction (at a cost!!) There is a default username/password combination for Brocade switches, but if that doesnt...

    Fibrechannel general questions

I think you need to get a expert in (ie spend some money)someone who can advise you on what is wrong, and also more importantly what is supported in your environment and what your options are! G

    Increase storage of Raid 5

No i dont think adding bigger drives will give you any extra space, the RAID controller will just treat the 36GB drives as 9GB and will not make the extra space available! You could always add the spare disk to the array and get an extra 9GB that way! So i am afraid you will have to backup the...

    Increase storage of Raid 5

Its quite possible the Ultra3 drives are not qualified with the server and/or the controller, but they should work. The Ultra3 drives should autonegotiate down to the bus speed.

    SAN AND RAID5

The HSG80 uses something called "Selective Storage Presentation" (SSP) to control server access (actually HBA access) to individual LUN's. Look at the ACCESS field on the LUN and the names in the connection table ("sho conn") the entries in the connection table correspond to...

    Raid 1

Emilio, Please be aware that disks do not normally have a high insertion number, that is they are not rated for repeated disk-pulls and re-insertions, its got something to do with the thickness of the plating on the connectors, something like 50 events max, and to be safe you need to keep it...

proliant 5500 replace hard drvier help

Yes you can probably change the drive hot, and as long as the replacement drive is the same size or bigger it shouldnt be a problem, but any extra capacity (above the size of the smallest disk in the group) will be wasted. To try and find a manual on your RAID controller (assuming its a Compaq...

I think most people would use SmartStart for this kind of operation! G

    Various Raid Questions

John, Had trouble finding anything on this really old controller, but in the end all you have to do is go to www.hp.com and in the search box put "smart-2dh" and for me the 3rd entry is the manual for this controller. i assumed you really meant the 2dh rather than a 2h controller G

Extend Logical Drive on SmartArray 3200

Have a look at Virtual replicator from Comapq/HP it may do what you want to do!, but its probably cheaper to do a full backup, trash the current config, recreate the new one and restore the backup! G

    More space

Kilted, Have you looked at the Virtual Replicator product from Compaq/HP, this allows you to grow a C: drive on W2K. Incidentally, why do you need to grow it? G

    Storageworks 4300 Series (esp. 4310 and 4350)

I should have also said that they will almost certainly work, they are just not supported. G

    Storageworks 4300 Series (esp. 4310 and 4350)

The reason the 4310/4350 shelves are not supported on the SmartArray's is that they were never qualified, they were only qualified on the HSG80 (an external Raid Controller). G
