Can NB allocate more than 2 tapes/media for Catalog

...what i forgot to add is that my cronjob runs a few times each morn so it allows for overnight backups to overrun ie the job manages to complete at least once before lunchtime.

Can NB allocate more than 2 tapes/media for Catalog

What i do is have via cron (and i know that's not what your boss wants but NetBackup can't do everything!) a manual backup of the catalog that checks that no backup jobs are running and if so kicks off a catalog backup to disk on another server. In olden times we would manually back that up (via...

Upgrade from 3.4 to 6.0 advise

Bob's probably got the best answer there; 3.4 to 4.5 is easy, as is 4.5 to 5.1 (we're a fairly small setup), however can't speak for 6.x as am still collating info on what's involved, but the fact that i'm still collating would suggest that 6.x isn't easy :)

NetBackup 6.0 media kit will now ship with MP4 installed

cheers for that one Bob, i've been tasked with collating info to upgrade from 5.1 (MP5 if i recall correctly) to 6.0, so i've got the easy bit ie i can see we'll be going to MP4, just trawling the forums for the difficult bits now :) Been out of the NetBackup loop for quite some months now so...

    Predicting required media

Hi, here's a simple script for exactly this purpose - http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=913978&page=1 (see my last reply at the end of that thread)

Where is my data in Activity Monitor?

this is what i keep in my bp.conf file - # # the below 2 params can only be set between 3 and 720 (up to 30days). # (these settings keep backup job history) # - if a value >720 is used, the default of 72hrs is invoked - not good!.. # 230204 - moved these 2 settings from job.conf as job.conf is...

hi Bob, hadn't got a script specifically for this but i have similar stuff. Rich

    Mail - Global settings

there's maybe something wrong in your syntax then, in Global Attributes. to do this manually simple add them to bp.conf file. syntax is as follows - USEMAIL = <email-address> ps you can use multiple addresses or a mail alias as long as there are no blanks or white space between them; not sure...

Script using vmchange to automatically eject tapes

yes, you must ALWAYS inventory after tape changing; (yes, my vmupdate command in inventorying).. 'fraid i'm not too familiar with NetBackup on Windows in relation to the command line (or severe lack of!); have checked with my Windows colleague and he's always used the GUI for inventorying so...

Script using vmchange to automatically eject tapes

hi, always run a robot inventory via whichever method is more suitable, every time tapes are changed

Script using vmchange to automatically eject tapes

'fraid you've got me there, don't know how you would make this windows friendly as i don't know what scripting alternatives are available in the windows world

    Versions of NETBACKUP... 64 / 32????

Nice one with the trainee DBA thing, keep at it, should be good money/interesting career. And if you can keep your hand in with the generalist stuff, should makes you more employable; I'm happy enough doing Unix Admin myself with an unhealthy dose of NetBackup addiction; btw, without saying too...

    Versions of NETBACKUP... 64 / 32????

no worries, i've been using Veritas stuff quite a lot for 6years (gets easier). NetBackup, Volume Manager, File System, Flashsnap etc. My Oracle knowledge is a 'needs must' as our DBA's do all that obviously, i just glean the little bits i need as i go along. can i have the ls -l of the libobk...

    Versions of NETBACKUP... 64 / 32????

let's have an ls -l of that libobk file which should reference the physical libobk file in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin. what i can't remember is how to determine whether an Oracle instance is 32 or 64-bit, but can only see 32bit libraries listed above so i think it's 32-bit Oracle instance...

    Versions of NETBACKUP... 64 / 32????

right, i dusted off some cobwebs and we need an ldd of the oracle binary to see which libok is linked in. (sorry if you know this already) - ldd oracle ..Oracle versions prior to 9i (such as yours above) will show the libok info, however this changed from 9i (and guess what i can't remember...

    Versions of NETBACKUP... 64 / 32????

you've found the limits of my Oracle knowledge there :) as to sbttest, it's a standard Oracle thing so you should have it; it's in the normal Oracle 'bin' folder. it's quite easy to use, just google for the params as i've long forgotten exactly what my example above stands for.

    Versions of NETBACKUP... 64 / 32????

not sure if you know about sbttest but it's very useful, i had a problem last year, linking Oracle 10G/NBU FP6 (10G wasn't supported until FP8). Anyway, i digress, you can try testing the connectivity etc via - 'sbttest richfile -dbname RICH -trace tracefile' see how that gets on, but as i say...

    Versions of NETBACKUP... 64 / 32????

can't see a way to edit my previous post, but have now found a complete RMAN Duplicate logfile from a couple years ago. (We no longer recreate/refresh databases from tape as we now have Netapp storage so it's an opportunity to post the output somewhere in case i ever work somewhere we they still...
