go to users panel and check the logon hours tab.May be by mistake its been set to random hours(time)
as u know logon hours can be restricted in NT/2000...it may be that something is clicked there.

it seems u r trying to make a child domain of an existing NT PC which is not possible.
For creating child domains u must have a forest root domain.

i have tried ur suggestion but, its not for installed applications which is more important for me.
please help if possible about other things particularly BDC and applications.
one more thing.....what should be the sequence for upgrade,i mean what should be the order for uipgradation...
