I've been to Vegas, NYC and upstate NH and I still Telematrix/Teledex analogs. Never seen a digital or a "native" IP telset anywhere I've been. Wished I did!
But this cord-cutting is insane. You need it for emergencies. The IT departments must be managing it to "cut" corners to make "revenue"...
This is been a typical practice in the enterprise space with the Definity class PBX/Aura Software PBX systems especially in the PLDS and "Sold to"/site-specific-literally-to-the-actual-address accounts .
I am wondering if they botched this process and you're one of the suckers.
Hopefully...
No the ones I saw was a Netgear VG2004. It says it on the bottom. Perhaps G11 was another vendor because it looked differently.
Whatever back to a hopeless VOIP deployment...
People prefer paper desis for an example (like the 1608) because they want to CUSTOMIZE what THEY want on THEIR button assignments and not what the SYSTEM tells them.
~Once upon a time Avaya's userbase going back to the Ma Bell, were people who were not pompous you know whats, just people...
I've noticed on eBay there is a private label Netgear VG2004 that is branded by Avaya as a G10 or G11 analog gateway for their short lived OneX Quick Edition.
I know a little that it was a P2P SIP system, and it uses SIP to talk to the other telephones, etc. The G10/G11 basically ties to SIP...
Stole my thunder (no pun!)
Good to know on both parts. I don't have licenses, but I do have some old parts from the IP Office units that got fried I could transfer over (like the VCM5.)
Is there a licensing structure on phones/trunks and concurrent calls? Not familiar with post 400 control...
So how can I protect (other than getting an electrician to come in) such as those IROB gadgets? I've read those are also used to protect analog trunks too?
What happens if the control unit is in another location than where the modem is? The wiring closet is in one area, the modem is upstairs in...
^ Let's put it this way:
1F trunk is via a cable provider that is tied to a modem.
I've had other phone systems in similar locations not having this problem. Similar situation, modem providing the analog trunk...
Can someone confirm reliability/safety via an analog trunk from a Comcast type of...
I've dealt with a couple IP Office 400 Control Units where both were damaged by mild or freak thunderstorms. One of those control units did start to smolder and when plugging it for experimentation months later as it was totally decommissioned, it totally started to smoke up.
I was wondering...
Wow. I guess if you want to go further unprofessional and more technical - do you want to insult the intelligence of users of the classic Merlin or 1A2 systems?
Jeezum you come off threatening just in one paragraph...
I think perhaps it needs to be more layman explained.
I would say the digital phones require a special control unit which acts as the "brain". They are proprietary in the sense because they really are not telephones, just devices that look like phones to talk to the phone system and back...
There's more to Nortel than you think.
You have to understand there were carrier hotels from many providers, you had various tenants, many of them not even connected to each other, the Port Authority, NYS, and NYC governments, and of course the private sector. AT&T claimed their switches...
The company's curse was buying Nortel.
AV was taken into an LBO before the financial crisis and had ZERO Debt. Why did PE firms buy them out, if there was no need to restructure them a Nortel buyout was NEVER in the cards, is beyond me.
They buy Nortel and technical people in the C-suite who...
Hi All,
I am attempting to do a project where IT IS POSSIBLE to do P2P SIP (I believe you disable authentication) and you can call P2P SIP sets. The setup is equivalent to a KSU-less system just over IP instead. I'm not going to buy one of those systems like the old Avaya OneX QE or Aastra's...
Hi all,
I struggle with Cisco IOS/IPT, and everywhere I go it seems to result in redirecting to other URLS or people just ripping and pasting vague info from other sites instead of just replying and dealing with a direct question.
I would like to understand how can I add an FXO/analog trunk...
BTW hardware is a ProLiant DL320 G4 with 2 SATAa running ESXi 41 and a DL360 G5 with option for SAS (the one without hard drives at the moment) running 5.1
Simple rules to communicate
I come with a Telephony background. IP networking can be complicated. Please be nice to me, don't reply with...
