Hi guys

at the office we had our SAMSUNG IDCS 100 replaced with the NEC SL1000 ANALOG SYSTEM.

Many of the Officeserv 5038s digital telephones have been dumped and new "crap" has been installed

is there any way to have the 5038s used on this analog system via an adapter or any method? most adapters ive seen are for voip or ip telephones which is not the case with the 5038s as it is just a digital non ip non voip telephone system.

For the record the 5038s doesnt even power on the new lines.

Your assistance will be much appreciated.

NEC SL1000 is not an analog system....it's Hybrid PBX
You can hook up digital NEC phones, IP phones or analog phones depending what cards you have inside the PBX.

5038 is a digital phone, digital phones are proprietary to the phone system they belong to.

Digital phones will not run on analog ports because the phone needs to see a digital signal which analog ports cannot provide.

I think perhaps it needs to be more layman explained.

I would say the digital phones require a special control unit which acts as the "brain". They are proprietary in the sense because they really are not telephones, just devices that look like phones to talk to the phone system and back.

Analog phones or lines tend to be Plain Ol Telephones are those sets where you can plug in a 2500 or a "house phone" into.

I'm curious about the "new crap" remark... if your phones got replaced with NEC dTerms, they are really not crap...

Thanks for the responses,

So this ATA adapter thats used for converting voip to analog, is there nothing that does the same for digital telephones??? theres no way possible to get it to work using any sort of adapter to convert the signal/s?

The only thing that could convert a Samsung digital handset to an analog extn. would be a Samsung office serve PBX with an analog trunk card

This would clearly be pointless so the practical answer to your question is no

you users will simply have to get used to the different operation methods of the NEC system.

No PBX works exactly the same as one form a different manufacturer. my experience is often when a customer upgrades to a newer more sophisticated system they will want the new system to require the same level of convoluted operation as the previous system, completely forgetting how much they complained about it when the original system was installed!

a classic example is to look at how Avaya added "Partner" mode to IP Office because American users were to stupid to understand they DID NOT NEED line appearance keys to select which line they called out on because the system would automatically choose the correct one for them, likewise it would automatically route inbound call to the correct user(s) (assuming competent installation)

when Muppet basic mode was introduced into Europe almost no one uses it because we are used to sensible PABX operation & did not want to take a step backwards

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

First off our friends to the south are not stupid (except for one person as of late).

Second the Key setup (Line Appearance) is not for "stupid people", it is for the smaller sites that do not need PBX mode when they can easily have Lines appearing for visual convenience (not to dial out lol) as well Key setup can have lines in a pool like the PBX which will automatically select a line when handset is picked up or 9 dialed.

Europe no doubt had Key setup and I have seen my self Norstar equipment in London several times with line appearances.

PBX mode is sensible for the larger companies indeed.
Key mode has always been there is not a step backwards, it's a convenience.

This is probably not relevant, but has anyone noticed the system in question the SL1000? I believe it is MFG discontinued. The SL1100 and now the SL2100 are the replacements. They didn't get a new system.

a classic example is to look at how Avaya added "Partner" mode to IP Office because American users were [too] stupid to understand they DID NOT NEED line appearance keys to select which line they called out on because the system would automatically choose the correct one for them, likewise it would automatically route inbound call to the correct user(s) (assuming competent installation)

Wow. I guess if you want to go further unprofessional and more technical - do you want to insult the intelligence of users of the classic Merlin or 1A2 systems?

Jeezum you come off threatening just in one paragraph...

exactly glad I am not a customer of his, man he must walk on water he is so perfect

Key and lamp is great for 4x4/8/16 on analog trunks but not really with Isdn and Ddi.
I think there is a fundamental difference between Europe and America. In Europe digital trunks are way more prevalent in Europe at the smaller end of the market. I believe that isdn 2 is not available in the US, with carriers only really offering analog trunks in the small end...

All said, "stupid" is a bit harsh, it's just that key and lamp is seen as a bit inferior to full pabx operation in Europe *in most applications* (my experience is I've never deployed key and lamp on a thing bigger than 2x6 and only once on isdn)

Horses for courses!

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

On a lighter note....reminds me of a time when I took a date to a gastropub (in America and as an American). Nice place, nice dinner, and then she said she thought the name "gastropub" was gross. I then called her a stupid American.....lol. That relationship did not last long. :-/

For whatever reason, the south is often perceived as "stupid".
Meanwhile, they have Oak Ridge, NASA, Texas Instruments...

... just saying.
Y'all. ;)

Unfortunately IP Office does not play well as a key system. Partner and Norstar editions. were created to lessen the cost of migration because of the ability to reuse phones.

Users are not stupid. They must be trained properly by professionals who can guide them properly through the migration.
