Thank you very much. There was one item which Satrow mentioned which you didn't confirm:
020-AppInit_DLLs:repairs.dll Should this also be deleted?
I've taken all the steps except for running the on-line scans. Panda won't work with Firefox and I hesitate to let IE run for 4+ hours (time...
Thanks very much.
Ewido ran itself after downloading the updates and I let it clean & quarantine iurpdll, gtbxenc and koinsvc. Will this prevent their complete removal?
I'm also wondering about 4 items under #016:
DPF ...Quicksilver
DPF ... digitalcity etc.
and two "download.games
The games are...
My apologies, I forgot I had tweaked Startup & Task Manager when I started this morning. Here is a more accurate scan which shows two more (at least) suspect files - Windows\iurpdll and Windows\gtbxenc:
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 1:17:55 PM, on 09/20/2006

Thanks 2ffat, I just checked the site and downloaded it. That looks like just what I've been wanting.
Here is the HiJackThis log
Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 12:24:56 PM, on 09/20/2006
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)...
Thanks for all of your replies.
Please send the address for downloading HiJack This as I read that CWS.msconfig misdirects Google searches. I had downloaded it some time ago but never used & it has disappeared. Also explain what things to scan with it.

Is anyone familiar with CW Shredder? I have something on my second hand computer. ZA was on when purchased and finds the same something W32.Bardust.A almost every day and supposedly treats it, however it keeps reappearing, often under different file names. It's located in a variety of...
I have Version 6.5.722 of Zone Alarm running on XP HOme. I use Mozilla Firefox as browser with dial-up modem. From time to time ZA says there is a virus which it lists as Win32.Bardust.A, found in an alphabet soup of supposed programs in Windows and occasionally in "System Volume Information...
Suggest you check the spybot web site. Forum, then Spybot -search and destroy ; Then "Solution to fix the pop-up in teatimer". There is also a link to a lengthy explanation for the bug. It appears to be in the 1.4 update. And although they use the term work-around, it would seem to be a fix.
Go to the Spybot web site, their forum, as I recall. The first entry a few days ago was the work around for this problem. It contains a download and complete instructions. (Yes, XP Home has the problem, too.)
After much searching I found a shortcut with a similar name and tried changing that, to no effect. It led to files of various names, not "Image Writer", and it wasn't oobvious which one or ones should be changed. Since Document Imaging apparently doesn't handle jpeg files, it doesn't seem that...
My HP 1220 Cse had been printing normally. I just loaded some pictures that had been stored on Zip disks onto the computer (Win98se,) converted one from Tif to Jpeg, and tried to print on glossy HP paper (first from Adobe Photoshop and then from Microsoft Photo Editor)(USB printer cable). In...
Thanks for trying, but not really. Others having the same problem, but no solution. Paint is useless and Picture & Fax Viewer is good only for viewing, not for editing, cropping and printing. It's not clear what the "Irfanview" download will do, but may try it. Wonder why Microsoft has blocked...
I like to use Microsoft Photo Editor to do basic editing on scanned hand written document pages on my XP Home computer. When I transferred these edited pages to my Win 98 computer I could print them with no problem, & with excellent quality. Now that I have a printer attached to the XP computer...
Posting here since this seems to be the only forum related to CA.
Does eTrust Internet Security Suite have compatibility issues with browsers other than Microsoft? (i.e. Mozilla Firefox and Netscape) Does its Anti-Spam only work with Microsoft Outlook & Outlook Express or Instant Messenger...
Is there any software available, not too expensive, that will recover .psd, .jpg, .tif and .pcx files on a DOS/Win 3.11 for WorkGroups machine. For some unknown reason the Windows "undelete" utility is not on this machine. I accidentally deleted all the files on one partition. All were said to...
Strongm, Have you saved any of those DOS recovery programs? I accidentally deleted all the files on one partition of a DOS/Win 3.11 for WorkGroups machine. I was able to retrieve some of them using DOS or PCShell. Others were reported as excellent, but returned garbage after the undelete. It...
Thanks to both for the replies. At the time, IE 6 wasn't appearing in the program list for Add/Remove, but it reappeared after I uninstalled all Symantec bits. I successfully removed it and reinstalled 5.5 which had acquired a previously not perceived security hole.
As for using Firefox with...
No replies to my query so I finally braved it and went through the whole process. Well, it DOES do some DAMAGE. One of Symantec's removal instructions empties the Recycle Bin. In my opinion no software should do that without permission and without informing the user that it wants to do it...
Thanks for the reply. I wonder if you by chance work for Symantec since you're so upbeat about NIS 2005. I've spent the better part of a month, have gone through their 8-10 page set of instructions for uninstalling anything that might conflict and reinstalling NIS 2005 and still can't get it...
I have had constant problems with web access since loading Turbotax 2004 which also loads a special version of IE 6.0. this version also eliminates one's previous version of IE (5.5 which worked reasonably well) I discovered too late. (It can not be restored). This IE 6.0 version causes...
