I have had constant problems with web access since loading Turbotax 2004 which also loads a special version of IE 6.0. this version also eliminates one's previous version of IE (5.5 which worked reasonably well) I discovered too late. (It can not be restored). This IE 6.0 version causes problems and errors with many web sites and does not even allow downloading to update the Turbotax forms. I thought I would download and install the version available from Microsoft however related information sites suggest (but don't state outright) that it is only for Windows XP (I use 98 SE). Is this true? Does it work with 98? SO mucch current software is ausing problems, I hope someone can help. Thanks.

well so far i haven't got any problems using ie6 on my win98se box (except probably the security issues).

maybe your ie6 wasn't installed properly. try using the update from ms's site or download your desired version here.

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

I've used IE6.0 on my W98se box at home for quite a while now with no problems. One suggestion is to remove IE6.0 via Add/Remove Programs. With this, the system will roll-back to IE5.5 or maybe 5.0. After this is done, you can update IE via the Update site. This approach has worked quite well.

Can you try using Firefox with Turbotax?

Thanks to both for the replies. At the time, IE 6 wasn't appearing in the program list for Add/Remove, but it reappeared after I uninstalled all Symantec bits. I successfully removed it and reinstalled 5.5 which had acquired a previously not perceived security hole.

As for using Firefox with Turbotax, that didn't work either.
