Finally it worked ! the crucial part was "in Group View" (I was trying to delete the multiple entries in the wrong view) This wasn't as common knowledge as I would have thought as I had asked both the supplier and installer and received no answer other than to use LDAP.

Please can you let me know how to delete all the directory entries at one time instead of one by one. I have tried all the usual combination of keys for multiple selections I can think of but I am only able to highlight each entry one by one.

The problem turned out to be something to do with permissions, when I used the administrator user name and password it all worked ok. I aslo had not setup the search query correctly so your post was helpful
