Stu247, This is a known issue with Nortel. If you are using a router, there is no need to use ICS, disable it and you will be able to connect. You also do not need to have ICS running with ADSL either.
As far a work around, this is done by design for security purposes.
Hmm, I will have to try the above fixes for the authentication issues.
If the computer is part of the domain, and the correct username and password is cached correctly (current uid/password) upon logging into the box and then connect to VPN, we dont have a issue. But if the password is changed...
There are several cause to this error (hang up). First and formost are routers, make sure that you connect straight into the modem for troubleshooting purposes. I support VPN for 2000 folks through out the US, I do have one DSL company that seems to have this issue no matter what, this is...
Earthlink and verizon both use winpoet. Winpoet is a connection Manager for PPPoE.
WinPoet and Nortel do not get along at all, and since EarthLink and Verizon both use outdated versions of WinPoet, so Nortel and WinPoet themselves offer NO support.
What we have done with our VPN wrappers that...
I work for a major corporation as a support engineer, and my primary function is supporting VPN (using nortel). The Nortel clients worked just fine with the 614+ (3.7, 4.15, 4.6) But as we were upgrading everyone to the 4.x client, we found that many users were complaining of constant drops...
To get full validation with your network in windows 2000 or XP your PC needs to be added to the domain, this is a win2000 and xp issue. Win9x/me does not need to be added. If the pc in question is added to the domain, then you must have current cached creditials and you will be able to have full...
Warning - If you upgrade to Nortel 4.6 and have winpoet installed on a Windows 2000 machine - it will crash and it does not work! Stick with 4.15 or lower. Trust Me.
To Renus75, I to do most all support for VPN (Nortel) for my company, I have ran into that issue a few times, and at first had to re-image the pc, from expeirance, what happen to you was a user that thought he new what he was doing and tried to delete the registry key or key's himself, I had a...
If you have a firewall, especially Nortons then disable it before connecting to VPN. Try to get the error that she is getting during the connection, this really could be anything, if the software is installed then her credentials may be incorrect. the specific error would help alot and also the...
Is the pc added to the domain that you are connecting to? If so ensure that your credentials are cached locally. (I am taking it that you are running win2000 or xp?) Also try logging in through dial-up. If you are using a win9x/me machine then cancel past the network log in while logging into...
IF you are using a Nortel client, here is what will work for you:
With Nortels latest client, users started droping like every 5 minutes that were using certain routers (which were a lot that are out there) so Nortel is suggesting to the companies to turn on NAT for users that are behind a...
This is from a tech doc that I wrote for my VPN support web I maintain, this should work for you, more than likley they do have you in NAT, if they did not, then that linksys router works right out of the box. (I have it at home)
1. Open up your browser and type http://192.168.1.1/Filters.htm...
Actually we are not seeing any issues as far as 4.15 and xp, all of our users that are using earthlink and verizon, we have them install 4.15 because 4.6 is not compatible with WinPoet (a pppoe connection manager) and if 4.6 and winpoet is installed, well say bye bye to your pc untill you clean...
cancel past the logon when you boot up instead of entering a password or just hitting ok, because you have a nic card you should be getting some sort of network logon, win9x/me does not have the requirement of being added to the domain to gain full access to which win2000x/xpx does.
Authentication!
Just because you are validating on your companies VPN servers, does not mean you are validating on the domain.
Win9x works great, if you cancel past the network logon instead of hitting ok, or putting in a password and hitting ok, Win9x doesnt need to be added to the domain to...
Just what I have seen on the net as a fix for the dns issue and that is to remove the Nortel IPSECSHM adapter from the device manager. I do all the VPN support for my company and generally this does not show up, I have one user complaining about dns issues and we are going to try this tommorow.
To clear up a issue that someone stated above, yes the 4.15 client does work with windows XP, we have to use it for folks running WinPoet. But the registry error is a good one and if anyone figures it out, I but them a cookie!
What version of Nortel are you using? If it is the latest 4.15 or 4.6. Then is your company using Nat or no (have they enable the feature to force users behind a router to use nat?) if they have then disable IPSec passthrough, if they have not then enable IPSec passthrough.
I am trying to get the Dlink wireless to work with the Nortel Client, if any one has suggestions please let me know. But for the reply stating that NAT does not work, it did not work with nortel clients 3.7 and lower, but versions 4.15 and higher it does work, we are currently using 4.6 and we...
