    Plan won't open

Thanks for confirming what I expected ... In the end we restored the file from the last backup.

    Plan won't open

I have an MSP file that simply won't open ... no error message, MSP doesn't hang but the file remains closed. A little background: we had problems with the file losing custom field lists so restored them from another similar plan. Then when I tried to close the plan it asked if I wanted to save...

Assignment Units when adding a resource to a task

Thanks Julie I think it must have been a coincidence that made me think I had solved the problem - the plan that worked also had existing Work = Actual Work on the task I updated so clearly MSP couldn't reallocate the actual work and I assumed it was the Estimated flag. We use a Fixed Work...

Assignment Units when adding a resource to a task

Panic over :-) ..... the reallocation seems to have been caused by the task being set as Estimated ... when I untick the Estimate box in the resource allocation form the existing allocations remain as they were (the new resource still gets allocated at 100% but no time is given)

Assignment Units when adding a resource to a task

Hi folks ... Until recently I have been able to add a resource from a Resource Pool to a task and set the Units to 0% initially - this had the effect of leaving work assigned to existing resources unchanged. BUT in the last week or two MSP has started to recalculate the Work assigned to each of...

    Rescheduling Problem

Hi Julie We're on MSP2010 SP2 .. everything up to date. The Task Type is Fixed Work. Working time is 8hrs/day The resource was planned on multiple tasks within the project and on other projects as well .... we use Resource Units to spread the resource's time over the various tasks - in this...

    Rescheduling Problem

Hi Folks I've had a little problem when using "Update Project" to reschedule a task I believed to be 100% complete. A task had 10 hours spread over 4 days using a rate of $25/hr and MSP has planned: Monday2.8hr$70 Tuesday2.8hr$70 Wednesday2.8hr$70 Thursday1.6hr$39.99 This totals 10hrs but...

    File corruption

That makes a lot of sense now I think of it :-) We've been using the pool for at least 4 years - we have rebuilt the links at intervals, but I think we need to review how we move plans through the folder structure Thanks for your help Julie

    File corruption

Hi Julie ... yes we regularly move files that are connected to the pool, we have a folder structure that plans move through as they come online - I'll have a look at that possibility (although the corrupted file isn't one that has been moved recently) ... do you think that rebuilding the links...

    File corruption

Sorry for the delay in responding - I've been busy with other jobs for a few days. Yes we are working with a resource pool .. when we expand the view we are asked if we want to open the resource pool which we do, but then we close it without saving once the expansion is complete. We have...

    File corruption

But wouldn't that still require either the master or the subproject to be saved in order to apply the update?

    File corruption

We're copying from Project into Excel - we copy Resource Usage data It happens to different files but one file does seem to be particularly affected We haven't noticed it happening at any other time (does linking require specific action because all we do is click the subproject insert button...

    File corruption

Thanks for the replies. We appear to be on SP2 (version is 14.0.7140.5002) We don't make any changes to the sub-plans - we do expand the view so that we can copy data, and if we get scheduling conflicts we say to continue, but we close without saving the master file and say "No to All" when...

    File corruption

HI folks I previously asked about a problem we were having with custom fields being corrupted ... see: thread913-1705839 We are still getting this (or a very similar) problem and it's becoming a real pain. In brief: I run an macro to extract data including custom fields from all the plans in...

    Plan opens at wrong date

Thanks for the advice Julie .... unfortunately I haven't permission to install updates :-( I guess we'll just have to put up with the irritation until central technology get around to applying the latest releases, assuming I live that long :-D

    Plan opens at wrong date

    It's MSP 2010 and I think it says SP1
  17. WaterGypsy

    Plan opens at wrong date

No - there is no code with the plan. All macros are stored in the Global mpt and Project_Open isn't referred to at all Yes - the date is set using Project Information :-(

    Plan opens at wrong date

Hi Folks This is really an irritating little problem. I have a skeleton project plan that is kept for creation of new standard plans. The problem I have with it is that although the project start date is set to March 2014, whenever I open the plan the Gantt chart is positioned at January 2012...

Custom Fields randomly (?) cleared out

Thanks Julie Apparently we have the latest version of MSP 2010 (Project 2010 14.0.6023.1000 SP1 MSO (14.0.6129.5000)) - but since we can't find out what version was inadvertently installed I am going to go with the opinion that it was an early version and hope that the problem goes away once...
