    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! LOSING MY MIND

I generally find that looking through the job log at the end of the back ups you can find files (red alerts) that could not be accessed for whatever reason. If a system is still running, (i.e. a server) then it is more than viable to suggest that a file couldn't be accessed if still in use...

    Asked for specific media name.

Whey hey! After the weekend compact/repair (taking from 6pm Friday until 11pm Sunday) and re "pointing" the jobs to a '*' wildcard instead of the first media in a group................it worked. Thank you to everyone for you patience and help. What a wonderful forum!! Regards B-)...

It may also be worth going into Internet Options, going into Temporary Internet File's settings and changing the setting for "Check for newer versions of stored pages" and select automatic (if not already selected). X-) Paul Wright IT Consultant Logicom IT Ltd

    Asked for specific media name.

Thank you for that last tip, you are correct in the assumption that I have been choosing the destination as the first tape in a sequence of four rather than accepting the default '*'. Alas I was advised this as being the correct method, but the logic seems correct. I think it would be fair to...

    Asked for specific media name.

Thank you Jim, I will try this on Monday as I need to run a repair and compact at the weekend, which will probably take the best part of the 48 hours no doubt. I will let you know how I get on and thank you in advance for your suggestion. Have a good weekend. Paul Wright IT Consultant Logicom...

    Asked for specific media name.

Jim, This is a HP Surestore DLT Library. No separate tape drive (but we did have a dat running along side until recently, the scsi card is removed but Arcserve still thinks it is there and I am not sure how to tell it it isn't). Patch Level, build etc,: Version 6.61 Build 834 SP2A Not sure...

    Asked for specific media name.

On occasions I am prompted for a specific media name, even though the jobs are set to overwrite media and subsequent jobs set to append to that media. This happens on the second (or subsequent jobs). This is Arcserve 6.6 running on NT and fully patched to latest releases. Head/Drive unit...

Can't stop an active backup job

This may sound like a daft comment to make, but I came accross this recently and couldn't get anything to stop the little blighter. When I switched between windows nothing came to light and I was continually told the device was busy. I was looking too deep..........if I had minimized all...

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! LOSING MY MIND

Having read many articles on this forum, the common denominator doesn't appear to be a specific hardware device, but Arcserve. It seems insane swapping out hardware, cleaning tapes every day, inserting brand new tapes (which are expensive), all to no avail. Why is it that the same library will...

ARCserv not able to locate media and therefore stops the run

Just found this article elsewhere in the Forum, this might be useful. Will report back on findings!! article is headed PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! LOSING MY MIND It suggests that the errors we have experienced my be scsi related, hence the inconsistency of it all. Regards Paul

ARCserv not able to locate media and therefore stops the run

No response to this question from anyone yet? I have been trying for over a month now, sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't, (mostly it doesn't). The error message returned by Arcserve are very vague and unhelpful. For days it was saying "unable to find blank media", but on...

ARCserv not able to locate media and therefore stops the run

Oh there is hope, but more work to do. After a remount of all the tapes (manually of course), The library actually took a different tape and the back ups seem to be running, however I feel a visit to the comm's room at 2am to perform the funtion manually again may be needed as this thing cannot...
