My daughter has somehow managed to lose her CD-ROM in Windows 98. It was working ok a couple of days ago but now when she tries to access a CD it tells her the drive isn't accessible.
I've looked at the startup and the BIOS detects the CD-ROM correctly. When I check W98 it says there isn't a...
If you have a large enough hard drive, install Win 98 into a different directory. For example: C:\N\WINDOWS\..unless you're just looking for something to do. Afterward you can deleted Windows ME and reclaim the added space with Partition Magic 4 and up.
My CD Rom drives aren't being recognized by windows. There also shown in the device manager as well in the Bios boot menu as being OK. However each gives an error that says the drives are not accessible and the device is not ready.
The drives are new so I don't believe its a hardware...
I get the following system error " Unable to create a Node Manager. Make sure MMCNDMGR.DLL is registered" whenever I try to use windows defrag. What is the correct format to register a missing dll?
My hard drive are connected to a Ultra ATA/133 PCI controller card which provides additional two extra controller channels. The extra channels do not appear in the BIOS settings. How can I fdisk, and install an OS on the hard drive, connected to a PCI controller, if it doesn't appear in the...
Actually the best video card for the buck is the NVidia GForce 4 MX 440 found here: http://www.dvcentury.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=96-989-440
I used this video card to replaced my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card and got better results. The proof was in the performance...
My video card was replaced with a new ATI Radeon 9200, 8X AGP,128 DDR video card. The bios menu screens which are being displayed bounce severely until windows loads. This happens whether I'm restarting windows or starting from a cold boot.
The description would be similar to hitting a...
I apologized for not getting back sooner but I didnt get a notice that someone responded. My motherboard accepts 2X/4X/ and 8X AGP. I didn't know that you could adjust them back if needed. The best way to describe what it does is to say that the menu screens bounce as their being loaded from...
I recently installed a Radeon 9200 SE video card which I used to replace a NVidia MX 4400 video card. By making this change went from a 4X AGP to a 8AGP. My motherboard supports it. Now during the boot cycle the menu jumps or has hiccups during that process. Otherwise everything else works...
I recently had a similar problem. My virus software detective a virus. I quarrantined it. However, the files the virus was attached to was Kernel 32 which, as I understand it, affects the IE. Whenever I tried to get on IE I got an error message stating this. Two weeks later, and after many...
When this happen to me it was a faulty power supply. the last component I would have thought of. As it turned out the power supply was too small to accommodate the extra components I had installed. OEM computer companies generally install the least expensive power supply which can only...
Its probably not worth your time to revive a dead horse but if you want to get another one go to pricewatch.com. You can pick one up for $5.00 or $10.00. The shipping might cost you more than the board.
I recently installed a Ultra ATA/ 133 PCI-to-ATA Host Controller. This controller was to be used to run my two hard drives and the on-board motherboard controllers are to be used to run the CDR. CDRW, DVD, Zip and floppy drives.
What should the order be for the boot sequence? My hard drives...
Thanks for the quick response. I was able to reset the BIOS by unplugging the power cord, removing the CMOS battery, waiting 1/2 hour then reversing the steps. With exception of changing a few settings everything works fine.
How can I reset a BIOS that I have been locked out of because of a misplaced password. I have a Asus A7V8X-X Motherboard, with a AMD XP 2100 CPU. How can I reset the Bios to bypass the password requirement?
Reboot using your windows boot disk to load generic drivers for you keyboard, mouse, etc. In DOS type "sys C" at the A>prompt and wait for "system transfered" to appear then restart.
Hey Guys,
Sorry I took so long to respond but I was caught in a hurricane and left in the dark for the last five days. Thanks for the response. I did not realize that a SCSI card was needed to run this hard drive. I don't have a spare PCI slot available. Besides I prefer to keep it simple...
