I am following Microsoft's instructions on how to deploy Office 2010 Pro but the startup script doesn't work after I reboot one of my clients.
This is what I know:
1. The new GPO I created and linked to the OU works because if I rename the script with .vbs (instead of .bat) or purposely make a...
I get that part and I'm glad I don't have to change anything on the workstations.
Unfortunately, I only have one DC. This is how it was setup before I got here. My plan in to get this new server working perfectly, then build a second DC for replication.
Thanks for the help.
Oh...I guess I should clarify.
The old domain controller (DC1) is called something different than the new domain controller (DC2). It's the domain (mydomain.local) that's the same on both the new and old servers.
If I use a different name for the new DC, wouldn't I have to change the the configuration of all workstations to point to the new domain? In other words, domain1 for the old server and that's what all workstations and other member servers know as the DC. If I name the new DC domain2, how would...
It's not a big environment so I only gave it about half an hour before shutting the old one down. It hasn't been demoted yet, just shutdown.
I will bring it back up and leave it on for a couple of hours. I just can't do it during work hours because the new server is using the old server IP...
Hi,
I built a new server 2008 Standard R2 machine and promoted it to DC using DC promo. I then transitioned our old server 2003 DC to the new one and took the old one offline. The new DC works fine with the exception of a few things missing. My sysvol directory is present and it has the...
I think I managed to point the workstations to use the local time server by enabling NTP and adding the time server to the "time provider" under computer management in AD.
I looked at the event logs for two of my workstations and they both showed that: "the time server is now syncronizing the...
I recently used the w32tm tool to configure my AD server to use (sync to) our internal time server. That works without any error issues. I was under the impression all clients using this DC will automatically be using the same time/time server as the DC but they are not. I run "Net time...
Another question that might help me solve this headache.
If client A types in google.com, the request gets assigned a DNS ID of 52130 by my internal DNS server, the request then goes to the root hints for name resolution since I don't have any forwarders setup, right?
Wouldn't it be safe to...
Interesting enough, when I look at the hex value for the DNS ID, its' a total reverse. For example, DNS ID for a request is 52130, the response comes back with a DNS ID of 41675.
52130 = cb a2
41675 = a2 cb
What in the world is going on here? LOL.
I'm waiting for OS update for my CISCO...
In my syslog I see messages such as "Denied UDP<dnsservername>/53 to 192.22.12.1 /37044 due to DNS response.
And in the snipper capture I did, I see something similar to this:
<Source> <Destination> DNS: C ID=12345 OP=QUERY NAME=www.tek-tips.com
<Source> <Destination> DNS: R ID=23451...
fixup is enabled but is it a good idea to disable it? I just want to make sure my DNS servers are setup right before I disable fixup. Do you know of any other reasons why DNS ID's might mismatch?
Delete the scrope and recreate it. Are you excluding any range of IPs? Do you have a firewall that's capable of blocking unknown DHCP Servers? Under scope options, do you have your router defined?
Since I have two DNS servers/suffix...All clients are configured with both DNS servers/suffix. Is it possible that the mismatch DNS ID occurs because a client tries to contact another client using suffix 1 but fails so suffix 2 is used to reach the client, hence, generating a different ID...
Thanks a lot for that information about the nameservers, that will save me some time. Now I have to figure out what's going on with the different DNS ID's.
I have a CISCO WS-SVC-FWM 1 module.
This only happens with internal queries. I'm not using any forwarders...I only have the default root hints doing all the name resolution (for internal and external addresses)). I'm not using a load balancer.
Also, I'm looking at a log from my sniffer and I'm seeing a lot of source addresses I'm...
I have two DNS servers running an in a multi subnet environment. Both DNS server work fine but I'm getting DNS ID mismatch and the firewall doesn't like that at all.
Anyone know why there might be a DNS mismatch and if so how to fix it? One is a primary and the other is the secondary.
I had this problem with one of my workstations last week...I had to remove the workstation from the domain by manually changing the workstation from domain to workgroup...then reboot.
I then logged in locally as the admin and added it back to the domain and that solved the problem.
