actually there are two ways.
1. make a ticket with Nortel. they have a backdoor password you can ask for. it is tied to the MAC
2. make a .cfg file with new passwords that match the ASCII config syntax. Providing you have SNMP RW access you can push the new file to the switch using JDM
I have some remote operations guys that got a hold of the WR local password on a 5510. They changed it, and have since forgotten it. :(
without initializing the switch is there a way to recover that password? I back door if you will.
I know there was a trick with the old Bay310's.
unfortunately you can't save alternate configs on a 470s, like you can on a cisco switch.
if you want to make backups do what I told you to do. back up the ascii version of the running-config using tftp to your desktop or a server.
or buy a copy of ESM. that will auto-fetch configs from your...
that does not stop someone (idiot) bridging the networks out on the floor with the building wiring.
believe it or not, but I have seen it happen. Someone found a cable loose on the floor, so they plugged it into a mall jack. Little did they know that the other end was also plugged into a wall...
I have to co-locate a stack of switches for my department in the same wire closet where there is another network belonging to another company. For some reason we need to share this same floor space. I would like to take all precautions so no one bridges the two networks.
It is my understanding...
I will concur with what you have already been told. 470's auto save. There are no startup/run configs.
if you want to backup the config off the swtich the command is.......
copy run tftp address <ipadd> filename <filename.txt>
this will back up an ASCII file via TFTP to your desktop.
Hi everyone.
Been working heavily with Nortel equipment for 4 years now. Very solid knowledge base within the ERS8600, ES4XX series, ER55XX lines of switches. Also strong with ENMS (formerly Optivity) and ESM.
I also dabble in Cisco, it's only 10% of our network.
I work with Point to point...
