I've just got concerns that doing this week after week, month after month, year after year, without drawing a line in the sand and doing another proper full backup, well, it might start to skew.
It might. Mightn't it? "
Well, no! I've got nearly 3 years of just that running and never had a...
1) A synthetic full *IS* a real full. The only difference is how it came to be. You don't need to protect the full any differently based on how it was created.
2) You seed to some kind of removable storage, I use a cheap and cheerful USB2 harddisk - one of the small light ones that run off USB...
While it's not the predictive report that I thought someone might post a way for running, that's certainly a cleaner and more deliberate way to achieve what we're doing now - without the tape people needing to know how to interpret the report.
Thanks!
With Calippos idea working, but needing manual effort for each tape run, I did what I maybe should have done months back and opened a support call.
The CV guy listened to what I wanted to do, and started to poke around along the lines of "well, yeah, I'm sure we can do this"....
20 mins later...
Here's a late reply - I only just spotted that this thread had had another post!
Calippo - I did what you suggested, and that is the end result I was trying to acheive. I now have a tape that I have verified as having all my (weekly) archive jobs on it so can erase the various others with bits...
After 2 and a bit years of using CV, I realised that we weren't doing the whole export / import things properly - mainly because we hadn't configured our tape library to know it's mail slots.
Once we spent the 5 seconds to enable that, we have the luxury of tapes reliably being detected (no...
Curiously, I got that last week for the first time. Unfortunately mine was a remote site where it's impossible to do a full across the WAN so I had to ship a USB drive down etc.
I won'der if it was a bug that's crept in or triggered by a Windows update? That said, I've got 12 other servers of...
I had to get it manually but that was it.
What criteria do the auto updates work on? I kind of trust that they will give me anything I need, ie for absolute bugs. I normally get service packs too although I had to apply 4a manually and then a patch after unbuffered IO went bad in August. I've...
The CI post pack for SP4a had not been installed. I've downloaded and manually installed now, although in the deployment guide notes read that it should be installed automatically by automatic updates. For some reason that update wasn't coming down.
Regardless, the post pack has now been...
(posted on behalf of colleague working with me on our content indexing...)
With online indexing working, I've moved onto setting up offline indexing. I've hit a problem trying to configure the storage policies - there is no "Content indexing" tab to enable it. I'm not saying it's greyed out...
Sadly this product is totally out of character for Novell. Over a year since release, after what was supposed to be a significant patch (SP1) and then 10.1.1 and it's still riddled with issues that novell can't explain.
We've tried to deploy twice and are pulling out out again. It really pains...
Thanks Birky, I'm encouraged that you're suggesting that I am indeed missing something. But isn't the following what will actually happen, assuming a simple two tape rotation (and even if I'm making two tape copies so that a copy can stay in the library too);
Day 1
- archive job puts newly...
(appologies if there is a second but differently worded version of this posting from yesterday - I thought I posted it but can't see it)
Getting ever closer to actually deploying the content indexing & search I boght 10 months ago, one area I can't quite decide or see how to configure and can't...
(errmm, believe it or not when I came into this message I didn't see any replies and wondered why such an easy one was unanswered. Then I went back to the index and wondered why '2 replies' and can now see bigg22's above).
Weird.
I know this is a little late, but have you run a 'job summary' report and selected 'failed objects'? If I'm understanding your questions correctly then that should help you out.
Thanks for the detailed reply.
You made the right assumptions re version and that I'm going single node. The hardware is 64-bit but I understand from books online that I should use 32-bit Windows regardless. I'll go back and see if I read the pre-requisites wrong.
While we hadn't gone through...
Hi,
I'm starting to read up Content Indexer as we have had the licences sitting here for a while and it's time I actually used it.
I've already got the hardware I need to use (ie it's got to suffice) which is as follows;
Server: Dell 1955 dual Xeon E5320, 8GB RAM running W2K3 Enterprise. Dual...
Hi,
I've having trouble getting this clear in my head after pouring over Books Online for the past 30 mins.
Basically, I've got a SQL Server which gets a full backup each weeknight, but the transaction logs aren't clearing.
I'm using the default subclient which is autodetecting the various...
I finally got the answer on this one. basically, the AddIn is VERY fussy about which version of the MS VC Redistributable it installs against.
I just happened to already have the right one on my PC so didn't encounter the problem, but on other PCs it was still a '2005' version but slightly...
