(posted on behalf of colleague working with me on our content indexing...)

With online indexing working, I've moved onto setting up offline indexing. I've hit a problem trying to configure the storage policies - there is no "Content indexing" tab to enable it. I'm not saying it's greyed out, it's just not there.

I have installed the Content indexing engine, search console and online content indexing on the same host (this won't be final config, just so I can get my head around things). The online content indexing has been configured and working. I am able to search the online data from the web search console.

I have enabled offline content indexing at the client level by checking "Enable content indexing" in Client properties - Advanced tab.

Im not sure if this matters but I uninstalled and reinstalled the engine on the server to change the search type away from full to slim index. I can now see two instances of the indexing database, but the online serch is still functional.

I don't think this is a licencing issue as I have licences as prescribed by CV and can see them being consumed and released as expected.

Can anyone assist?

have you installed the CI service pack?

The CI post pack for SP4a had not been installed. I've downloaded and manually installed now, although in the deployment guide notes read that it should be installed automatically by automatic updates. For some reason that update wasn't coming down.

Regardless, the post pack has now been installed and the Content indexing tabs have still not appeared.

Here is the version info on CI server. Am I now up to date?

Version: 7.0.0(BUILD76)
ServicePack:4a
AdditionalUpdates:
FastStartupScript(0148)
DM2-CSSPVersionSupport(0923)
ResetLHBackupCacheDir(0924)
CIZipFileFixes(0952)
adBackupFailShownAsSuccess(0959)
PrematureStreamFreeup(0965)
eventlogscausingcrash(0970)
SysStateBkpCrashGermanComputer(0981)

Update status

Content Index Server Up To Date
Content Indexing Agent Up To Date
Desktop Search Server Up To Date
Desktop Search Server Database Up To Date
Windows 32-bit File System Up To Date

Does this sound like I need to open a support case?

the SP won't automatically be downloaded but, the additional CI patches will
(148 etc)

Try running auto updates again as I see that you haven't got patch 1030 which fixes a problem with the tab not showing up in the CommCell Console GUI

################
Content Index engine configuration tab no longer appears in the GUI
(Update 1030)
#################

If it still doesn't download patch 1030 then you'll need to manually get it

I had to get it manually but that was it.

What criteria do the auto updates work on? I kind of trust that they will give me anything I need, ie for absolute bugs. I normally get service packs too although I had to apply 4a manually and then a patch after unbuffered IO went bad in August. I've been getting other auto patches in between though.

Anyway - thanks Birky ;) (now see if you have anything more to say on my archive rotation thread...:)

Glad it worked ;-)

you usually only get hot fixes through the auto update for CI

SP's for CI don't download automatically
